Sunday, 1 January 2023
My hope that the neighbors would back off from the New Years Eve mayhem was unrealistic. The dogs are all still together and unharmed, but a few fences and a gate have been demolished. In their panic, some dogs apparently tried to run away. I'm fixing things as best I can and will try to get Chang Wai for a day or two to make the necessary repairs.
While Jutta cleans the TVT station and the house, I clean the remaining areas. After that, I feed Dahn and the puppies, and then all the other dogs. Meanwhile, the puppies mingle with the big dogs in the double gate area.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the puppies a second time and going through all the areas again to clean them. Dahn and the puppies have both units of the TVT station available to them for tonight. Billy, Jade, Chip, and Khiaow will stay outside. The weather is good, after all.
Monday, 2 January 2023
I arrive early at the shelter, carrying the puppies to the double-gate area, and clean both enclosures and the entrance of the TVT station. Pat comes, cleans the house, and starts feeding. I clean the outdoor areas.
In between, Pat bathes Kylie and Roshi, and I am with the only female puppy, whom I call Yana, at Dr. Oi's. Yana and one of her brothers, like Yana, with reddish, long-haired fur, show a little hair loss around the eyes. This can be a sign of early mange. However, Dr. Oi thinks that is not the case.
I then visit Mona. Dr. Oi informs me that the wound is starting to close. In two days, Mona will receive the second chemo injection. Until the third treatment, I will take her back home with me.
In the afternoon, I return to the shelter and let the puppies out of the TVT station. Pat has left plenty of food for them. After cleaning the house and the area around it, and cleaning the TVT station again, I bring the puppies and Dahn back to the TVT station. However, today I leave the doors open, so the big dogs can come and go. The puppies only make it to the walled, open entrance area. They can't overcome the small wall yet. Next, I will build a small staircase for them so they can also come and go.
Tuesday, 3 January 2023
In the morning, I first clean the TVT station, then feed the puppies and let them outside. I construct a small staircase for them using Eet-Blocks, enabling them to access the TVT station's enclosure. It will take a few days for all the puppies to understand that they can now come and go freely.
After cleaning the house and surrounding area, I drive to Wat Amparahm. There, I purchase rice for Ba Bät and store 20 kg of dry food in the temple chamber. At the front hall, I notice a significant swelling on Dotty's left flank. During the search for the other dogs, I find Payu and Deva missing. I proceed with our usual beach walk, where we encounter Toto and Kofi, both of whom are doing well.
After refilling the fresh water, I take Dotty to Dr. Oi. Dotty undergoes an X-ray and ultrasound examination, as well as a blood sample collection for lab testing. As I stay with Dotty during the procedures, she remains calm and cooperative. The examination doesn't provide a clear diagnosis, so we hope the lab test will yield results.
Dotty first goes to the TVT station. Then, I start cleaning the back areas. After administering Dotty's medication, I let her outside to socialize with the other dogs. Dotty explores the double gate area without any conflicts with Khiaow, Chip, Dahn, or Jade. Dotty is gentle with the puppies, while Billy remains uninvolved.
For feeding, Dotty returns to one unit, while the puppies join Dahn in the second. Then, I feed the dogs in the double gate area, followed by those in the house and back areas.
At dusk, I sit with the dogs in the double gate area. Some of the puppies have already figured out the trick with the stairs, while others continue to practice. Tonight, I plan to leave the puppies outside for the first time. As a precaution, I place Dotty in the front unit of the station, but keep the doors to the units open. This way, all the dogs can come and go as they please.
Wednesday, 4 January 2023
In the morning, I pick up Mona from Dr. Oi's. Mona has received her second Vincristine injection. She'll get the third one in a week. Until then, she can go back to her old area. There, she is warmly welcomed by the other dogs, and the stress will be over for her for now.
The puppies have survived their first night outdoors. Most of them already know what the little stairs are for. However, Pat points out to me that one of the puppies has some superficial bite wounds on its head and neck. The puppies must have been play-fighting. The little guy is a bit shocked, so I pick him up and carry him into the kitchen, where he recovers until the afternoon, and then I can bring him back to his siblings. Dotty has settled in quite well in the double gate area; the other big dogs accept her presence.
Pat feeds the dogs, and I clean up. In addition, I refresh the water in all the tubs and bowls. Since Pat fed the puppies twice today, I skip the second feeding in the early evening. Otherwise, the little ones might burst.
Thursday, 5 January 2023
I'm taking Jutta to the shelter, feeding the puppies, and then I'll be in Pattaya for an hour and a half. Jutta had everything under control, but she still has to win Billy's heart. Returning to the shelter, Jutta has already cleaned the house and all the areas, so I can bring her back to Pattaya a bit earlier today.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter to feed the animals. Alex calls me. I know Alex from my time when I lived in AA Village. He gave Nat my number, and that's how Dahn and the puppies came to me. Alex informs me that Dahn didn't give birth to just eight puppies, but ten. One has been adopted and Nat kept one. Alex is concerned that the puppy is being neglected. I call Nat and offer to take this puppy as well. However, Nat wants to keep it. This is despite her telling me she can't keep dogs in her new house.
It turns out she has another older dog with her that she had to chain up because it was causing havoc in the village. I can't change the situation, but I ask Alex to keep an eye on the dogs. Alex shows interest in visiting me at the shelter soon.
Friday, 6 January 2023
I'm picking up up 100 kg of dry food and 15 kg of puppy food, and then heading to the shelter afterward. Pat is already feeding the animals, while I will be responsible for administering medication and cleaning. Mona and Dotty are faring relatively well. The puppies seem to be enjoying their youthful days. I can distinguish most of them already and have assigned names to some. They have all adapted to the small staircase I constructed, allowing them to bypass the barrier to the TVT station. Each day is becoming easier for both them and us. Dahn has acclimated quite well and interacts positively with Khiaow, Chip, Billy, Jade, and Dotty. Though the double gate area is somewhat cramped, it should be manageable for the next few days.
Saturday, 7 January 2023
Jutta is working again today. She's becoming more independent every day and is a great help to me. My first glance in the morning, of course, goes to the dogs in the double-gate area, especially the puppies. They're all behaving and developing normally. Dotty, Khiaow, Jade, Billy, and Chip accept their presence, or rather, they tolerate them. It's good for the puppies that they get contact with adult dogs early on. It's also a relief for Dahn not to have to be constantly there for them.
I feed the puppies, who are quite hungry in the morning; each get a quarter of a deworming tablet as well. Before we start the cleaning, I distribute the other medications. After cleaning I take care of all the other dogs. In the meantime, Jutta washes the tubs and bowls and refills them with fresh water.
In between, I try to take some photos of the puppies. I can now tell them apart quite well, and so they all get names. I call the only female puppy Yana, and her seven brothers get the names Jampa, Norbu, Arkan, Hakim, Kito, Jomo, and Talib from me.
After I've taken Jutta to town, I'm back at the shelter in the late afternoon. I clean the house area, the double-gate area, and the Pat area. Then I distribute the evening medications to Lucy and Dotty and feed the puppies for the night.
Sunday, 8 January 2023
Jutta and I are doing our routine tasks. After I've cleaned the double gate area, I feed the puppies and then distribute the medications. Dotty receives Prednisilone for the last time; I'll continue the Doxy treatment. The swelling on her flank hasn't reduced. Lucy has four-week Doxy/Ferric treatment completed. I'll continue administering Ferric for another week.
After we've cleaned all the areas, I feed the big dogs. Water only needs to be refilled in some areas. In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the puppies a second time and cleaning all the areas again. Kylie is back in her kennel in the house area.
Monday, 9 January 2023
Pat works at the shelter while I'm busy in Pattaya until the afternoon. Back at the shelter, I clean the areas and refill the water. All the dogs are full and content, and the puppies are doing well.
Tuesday, 10 January 2023
Today, I'm at the shelter all day doing routine work. The puppies are fed in the morning and afternoon, and the big dogs are fed in the afternoon. In between, Alexander comes to visit us. I had met him when I lived in Naklua years ago. Through him, Dahn and the puppies came to us.
Wednesday, 11 January 2023
Pat is working this morning. I'm with Mona at Dr. Oi's. Mona is getting her third chemo injection. In the afternoon, I'll pick up 220 kg of dry food, store the bags, and then take Dotty to Dr. Oi. The lab test did not confirm the suspicion that tumor cells had formed. Dr. Oi will open the thickening tomorrow. Dotty will be staying in the clinic for at least three days.
Thursday, 12 January 2023
Dotty has had surgery. The mass has been removed and is now being tested for cancer. Dotty will stay at the clinic for a few more days. Jutta is helping me out again today. We decide to move Dahn and the puppies to the Pat area. To allow the puppies to access the spacious Sala, I build a staircase out of eet-blocs. The pups are now being fed in the sala. During the day, the puppies have adjusted well to their new environment, and I hope they will make it through their first night as well.
In the afternoon, I'm at the car repair shop. The door locks are very hard to operate and need to be replaced. While the repairs are being done, I'm with Matthias. Matthias informed me yesterday that Schlappi, the dog from the neighboring house who often lies in the café, has been kicked out onto the street by his foreign owner because he frequently chases motorcyclists on the busy street in front of the café and has already caused several near-accidents. Schlappi is otherwise quite peaceful, and I have already established some contact with him. However, Matthias can't take Schlappi in, and he's afraid that sooner or later, Schlappi will cause an accident. That's why Matthias asked me if I could take Schlappi in. I can only try that at the temple.
Since the problem is urgent, I asked Bua to come to the café tomorrow at noon to try to catch Schlappi with a net and dart him if necessary. If the operation is successful, I will try to make Schlappi feel at home in the temple.
Since my plastic crates are no longer escape-proof, Hans has offered to buy a sturdy steel wire cage. He would cover the costs for it. I find one that fits perfectly on the bed of the pickup. In the future, I will no longer use plastic crates.
In the early evening, I'm finally back at the shelter. I feed Dahn and the puppies as well as Lizzy. The big dogs will have to wait until tomorrow morning when Pat will take care of them.
Friday, 13 January 2023
At noon, I'm at Matthias' café, but Bua doesn't show up. I call him multiple times, but he doesn't answer. His wife eventually tells me that he can be found at Immigration. I drive there, but Bua is nowhere to be found. After an hour and a half, I finally give up. In the afternoon, I ask Dr. Kwanchai about Bua. Dr. Kwanchai tells me that Bua is in Bangkok.
On my way home, I stop by Beppe's place. A few weeks ago, Beppe took in three puppies and two days ago, he took in another four who were motherless. He wants to place the four new puppies with Khun Lek, but that's out of the question for me. I offer to take in the four puppies. However, Beppe wants to care for them for another two weeks.
Pat has taken care of the dogs at the shelter. I only go through all the areas once more to clean up and refill water. Dahn and the puppies are doing well. They still have some food left, so feeding them in the evening is not necessary.
Saturday, 14 January 2023
Jutta comes over in the morning and we drive together to Dr. Oi's. Dotty has had a pressure bandage applied; she seems to be doing comparatively well. She wants to come with me, but Dr. Oi, who is out of the clinic, has to decide when Dotty can come back to us. Jutta and I carry out our routine. All the dogs are doing well and the puppies are enjoying their lives in the new environment.
In the afternoon, I meet Bua at Matthias' café. Bua darts Schlappi without any problems. He suggests taking him in for two days so that he can recover in peace. On Monday, he will bring Schlappi to the temple, and I will try to make him feel at home there.
I still go to the temple, buy rice for Ba Bät, and take the dogs for our walk on the beach. There, we meet Kofi and Toto. All the other dogs are also gathered. However, I miss Payu again. He is very close to Dotty and probably misses her.
On the way back, I pick up 100 kg of dry food and two pallets of eggs from Khun Apisit. At the shelter, I feed the dogs and refill the water bowls. Then I go through all the areas again, cleaning up. All the dogs are full and content.
Sunday, 15 January 2023
Together with Jutta, I tackle the routine tasks. After cleaning the house and the surrounding area, I feed Dahn and the puppies. Then, I clean their area, as well as the TVT station and the double gate area. While Jutta cleans the back areas, I refresh the water in all sections.
In the afternoon, I pick up Dotty from the clinic and reintegrate her into the double gate area. The surgery was successful, but it will take some time for the procedures to fully heal. I feed Dahn and the puppies again and then go through all the areas once more, cleaning them up.
Monday, 16 January 2023
Pat is already at the shelter when I arrive in the morning. I give Dotty her morning medications. Dotty seems to have handled both procedures quite well.
At one o'clock, I meet Bua, who has brought Schlappi to Wat Amparahm. We let Schlappi out of the cage. After briefly surveying the area near the fron hall, Schlappi heads to the beach. The front hall dogs and the beach dogs are quite nice to him, but of course, Schlappi is a bit stressed. He only knows me, which makes it easy for me to find him at the far end of the beach. Along with a few other dogs, he follows me back to the boats, where he settles down a bit further away.
I give him some water and then drive to Wat Yang Yai, which is not far from Baan Amphur in the Huai Yai district. The young abbot of the temple has asked me to visit him because he has some dogs to sterilize. He also asks me if I can help him with funds for food. I can arrange the sterilizations since Huai Yai belongs to Banglamung and the dogs can be sterilized as part of the SDF project. As for food assistance, I need to look around to see if I can find supporters for those temple dogs.
After a little over an hour, I'm back at Wat Amparahm and find Schlappi alone at the same boat. I don't get the impression that he'll run away, but I'll visit him again tomorrow so he knows I'll always come back. This has always worked quite well with the other temple dogs.
Back at the shelter, I feed Dahn and the puppies for the night, give Dotty and Lucy their medications, and finish by cleaning all the areas.
Tuesday, 17 January 2023
In the morning, I ask Bua to contact the abbot of Wat Yang Yai so that the unsterilized dogs there can be taken to Dr. Sudarat. At the shelter, I clean the house, house area, Dahn area, and double gate area, then feed the puppies with food that Pat has prepared. To give the puppies the best possible start in life, we feed them rice several times a week, enriched with lots of vegetables and meat.
Afterward, I clean the remaining areas, buy dry food from Apisit, and then go to the temple to check on Schlappi. He is still in the same spot where I left him yesterday. I get the impression that he is gradually starting to enjoy his new freedom. The beach and temple dogs leave him alone.
Across from Schlappi's resting place lives a Thai man to whom I have delivered dry food several times before. He takes care of his dogs as well as Kofi and Toto. I give him a 20 kg bag and ask him to also look after Schlappi. I then apply the sulfur mixture to Neung, Tara, Jake, and Taco, and finally return to the shelter.
Bua informs me that he has taken three dogs from Wat Yang Yai to the clinic. I will cover the costs for this. In the coming days, I will talk to the abbot again to see if more dogs need to be sterilized. I feed the puppies for the night, and then all the other dogs. After that, I complete the evening cleaning round and administer the medications to Lucy and Dotty.
Wednesday, 18 January 2023
Pat is already working when I arrive at the shelter. I distribute the medications, store 160 kg of dry food, and then check on Dahn and the puppy. Pat has already fed them, so they are plump and round. Then I start cleaning all the areas and refill the water. Pat feeds the remaining dogs.
In the afternoon, I clean again, give Dotty her evening medications, and feed the puppies again with dry food. I deliver 20 kg of dry food to the caretakers of Naree and their other two dogs.
Thursday, 19 January 2023
Jutta is helping me with work again today. While she cleans the house
area, I feed Dahn and the puppies and distribute the medications. Then I
clean the back areas while Jutta cleans the TVT station and the
treatment room. After that, we wash all the bowls and tubs and fill them
with fresh water. In the afternoon, I feed the big dogs and then the
puppies again.
Friday, 20 January 2023
In the morning, I briefly stop by the shelter and distribute the medications. Pat is already working. At noon, I have an appointment with Hans at the temple. Hans wants to see how Schlappi is doing. Schlappi is still lying by the same boat and is happy to see Hans. I instruct the man from the house across the street to take care of Schlappi again and provide him with some dry food. Hans will now check on Schlappi every few days. He lives not far from Baan Amphur in Huai Yai.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter. Pat has already fed the dogs. I'm at Dr. Oi's with Dotty and Mona. Mona receives her fourth chemo injection and Dotty's bandage is changed. Dr. Oi is very pleased with the outcome of the procedure and tells me that she wants to see Dotty again in three days. The puppies haven't finished their food plates yet, so I skip their evening feeding.
Saturday, 21 January 2023
I'm working together with Jutta again today. First, I feed Dahn and the
puppies and then distribute the medications. After that, we clean the
house, the TVT station, and all other areas. In the afternoon, I feed
the remaining dogs and the puppies a second time. Then I go through all
the areas again to clean them.
Sunday, 22 January 2023
Jutta and I arrive together at the shelter in the morning. I notice that the smaller wound on Dotty's back, whose stitches had been removed, has slightly opened up. Dotty is with Billy, Khiaow, Jade, and Chip in the double gate area. Jutta takes care of the dogs and starts cleaning, while I am with Dotty at Dr. Oi's. Dr. Oi says it's not serious, but the wound needs to be re-stitched. Dotty goes back to the double gate area and I feed the puppies and Dahn. After that, I help Jutta with the cleaning. Then we wash all the tubs and bowls and fill them with fresh water. In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the big dogs and the puppies a second time. Afterwards, I go through all the areas again, cleaning them up.
Monday, 23 January 2023
Pat is feeding at the shelter this morning. Dahn's puppies are getting the special food again, which is obviously good for them because they've already grown and are very strong. I buy 200 kg of dry food from Apisit and then go to Beppe's to pick up the four puppies he had found motherless two weeks ago.
The puppies are about two weeks younger than Dahn's puppies and smaller. That's why I initially put them in the double gate area. The five dogs there already have experience with puppies, so the integration goes smoothly. I build a small set of stairs again so the puppies can get to the TVT station. I name the two female puppies Shaina and Asha, and the two male puppies Japa and Kavi. Shaina, Asha, and Japa have immediately bonded with me, while Kavi is still a bit shy.
I feed the puppies in the TVT station with rice food that Beppe gave me. Dahn and the puppies get dry food for the night. I leave Shaina, Asha, Japa, and Kavi in the double gate area. They can use the stairs to get to the TVT station. It's always a bit of a risk to throw puppies into the deep end, but I've always had good experiences with it, and it worked well with Dahn's puppies recently too.
Tuesday, 24 January 2023
Tuesday is the day of the week when I work alone at the shelter. So, I'm busy all day keeping all areas clean, feeding the dogs, and refilling water. In the late afternoon, Judith visits us with her students from Rugby School. Unfortunately, it's only a short visit, but I can introduce them to all the puppies.
Wednesday, 25 January 2023
Pat is feeding again today, and I clean and refill the water. The four new puppies, Shaina, Asha, Japa, and Kavi, have already settled in well since the big dogs have adopted them. In the afternoon, I clean again and then burn a large pile of dry palm fronds. Afterward, I feed all the puppies for the night.
Thursday, 26 January 2023
Jutta and I go through our routine. In addition, we wash all the bowls and tubs and fill them with fresh water. The puppies are fed in the morning and evening, and the remaining dogs in the afternoon.
Friday, 27 January 2023
Hans told me yesterday that he hasn't been able to find Schlappi for days. So, in the morning, I set out to search for him. I walked along the entire beach and the parallel street, but I couldn't find Schlappi. Payu was also missing. All the other dogs were in their usual places. I rubbed Taco and Jake with the sulfur powder/coconut oil mixture.
On the way back, I stopped at Wat Yang Yai and spoke with the abbot. Gradually, I will bring all the dogs I can catch or that the monks can catch, to Dr. Sudarat to be sterilized.
When I arrived at the shelter, Pat was still working. I cleaned all the areas and then picked up Serge, who had promised to take photos of the dogs for me. On the way, Serge showed me a mother with eight four-week-old puppies that he was taking care of. I will also check on them. Serge brought a camera, but the chaos was overwhelming that he hardly had time to take photos. He will make up for it when we have time. After Serge left, I fed all the puppies for the night.
Saturday, 28 January 2023
As with every weekend, Jutta is working at the shelter again. Together, we go through our routine. Daniela and Roman come to visit us at lunchtime. Unfortunately, there's not much time for the visit since we want to take a stray cat with five kittens, which Roman has taken in, to Claudia's home. Before that, however, I feed all the puppies. At Roman's house, the mother cat escapes, so we have to postpone the move. I then go to Claudia's, who needs to take one of her dogs to the clinic. Since Claudia doesn't have a car, it's always cumbersome for her, and so I help her out today.
In the afternoon, I take Dotty and Maggie to Dr. Oi. Dotty's wound is drained because fluid has accumulated under the skin. Dotty gets a new pressure bandage applied. She should receive Prednisilone for a week. As it turns out, Maggie doesn't have an ear infection, but instead has developed a fungus on her ear flaps. I've received a cream to treat it.
Back at the shelter, both dogs return to their spots. I then feed the large dogs and the puppies a second time. I've moved Roshi to the treatment room. I had the impression that she wasn't feeling well. It's cooler in the house, and I can also bathe her more comfortably.
Sunday, 29 January 2023
Dahn's puppies have grown so much and become so strong that I can no longer hold them back when I open the door to their area. So I give up and let them and Dahn into the area of the large sala where Dina, Cookie, Maggie, Victor, and Jack are. The puppies immediately occupy the entire area without any incidents. The big dogs are just curious about the visitors, and Dahn is accepted too.
I spend some time with the dogs, but later I go about my usual tasks while Jutta cleans the house area. The situation in the double gate area isn't ideal, but the four puppies are relatively well integrated there. I feed them separately from the big dogs and then also Dahn and the eight puppies, who follow me relatively easily back to their usual area. After feeding the puppies, I open the gates again, and the four puppies can move freely in the double gate area, and Dahn and the eight puppies can move around in the area of the large sala area. After cleaning the back areas, I then feed the big dogs. There are no problems with the puppies during this process.
Until the second feeding of the puppies, I let the eight puppies stay in the area of the large sala area. The door to their usual area remains open. I feed Dahn and the puppies there for the night and, as a precaution, let them stay there overnight with the door closed.
Monday, 30 January 2023
Getting into the double-gate area is gradually becoming difficult, as the four puppies always lie directly behind the door. The double-gate area should actually be free of dogs, but now it's getting crowded in the shelter again, so at the moment I don't see a better place for the puppies. However, it's important that all dogs get along well in the relatively limited area, and that the puppies get used to the big dogs early on. The four puppies are still fed separately.
This also applies to the eight puppies and Dahn. After feeding, however, I open the gate again to the area of the large sala. The puppies are now familiar with this area and the five big dogs in it. There is still no problem with the integration of either the four or the eight puppies, and Dahn also gets along well with Dina, Cookie, Jack, Victor, and Maggie.
After Pat has fed the puppies, she goes from area to area, feeding the remaining dogs. Meanwhile, I clean the areas and dispose of the feces. In the late afternoon, I am back in the shelter and feed the puppies for the night. Tonight, the door between the puppy area and the area of the large Sala will remain open for the eight puppies and Dahn. The dogs have now gotten used to each other for three days, so I have little concern about leaving them together overnight.
Tuesday, 31 January 2023
Today on Tuesday, I'm working alone at the shelter again, and it takes up my entire day. In the morning, I feed Roshi, who is still in the treatment room, and Kylie with the rice food, and then the four puppies Asha, Shaina, Jappa, and Kavi. I feed the eight puppies Yana, Hakim, Jomo, Jampa, Arkan, Talib, Kito, and Norbu, along with Dahn, in the Pat area. They spent the night in the area of the large Sala together with Dina, Cookie, Maggie, Victor, and Jack. There were no problems. Only Victor and Cookie occasionally show the puppies who's boss in the area. After feeding, I clean the house, the double gate area with the TVT station, the residential area, and all other areas. In the late afternoon, I feed the big dogs and then all the puppies once more.
Wednesday, 1 February 2023
Pat is working at the shelter today. I'll get 80 kg of dry dog food and then deliver sulfur powder and ferric to Beppe. After that, I'll be at the temple, storing a bag of dry dog food in the temple chamber and buying 45 kg of rice for Ba Bät. After providing fresh water for the dogs in the front hall, I walk along the beach with some dogs to look for Schlappi. We find Kofi and Toto, but not Schlappi.
Back at the front hall, I miss Deva and still Payu. Suddenly, Talo, Tara, and Jake attack Satya. She flees to one of the restrooms. There, I find out she is bleeding from several small wounds. Ever since her sister Panya is no longer with us, Satya seems to be going downhill. I also discover that Taco has a wound the size of a ten-baht coin on his back. I've been applying a sulfur powder/coconut oil mixture to Taco, Neung, and Jake for weeks because they're losing fur. I suspect it's due to a poor diet. I'd love to take them all back with me, but that's just not possible.
At least I take Taco and Satya on board and introduce them to Dr. Oi. Besides the smaller bite wounds, Satya has a swelling on her back. Taco's wound is treated, but should remain open. I have blood samples taken from both dogs. Satya stays overnight at the clinic, and Taco is locked in the back unit of the TVT station. He should receive Prednisilone and Doxycycline for a week and wear a collar.
After stowing away 60 kg of dry dog food, I clean all the areas. Dahn and the eight puppies have settled well in the area of the large Sala. Pat has fed them so well that I don't have to provide for them at night. However, I still give the four puppies some dry dog food. They are not very hungry though. Taco stays in the back unit, and the four puppies and other big dogs have access to the front unit and the double gate area. All dogs get along quite well. The four puppies are also growing and thriving.
Thursday, 2 February 2023
At the TVT Station, the first thing I do is look for Taco. Taco is still wearing his collar and doesn't seem to be unhappy. I administer the morning medications to him and Dotty. While Jutta starts the cleaning, I prepare food for the puppies. Pat has cooked some vegetables again, which I mix with rice and meat. I feed the four puppies in the second unit of the TVT Station, and the eight puppies together with Dahn in Pat's area. Then, I feed all the other dogs. Taco, Roshi, and Kylie get rice-based food, and the remaining dogs get dry food.
In the afternoon, I meet Heidi at the loft. Heidi has informed me that two puppies, about six weeks old, were abandoned there yesterday. I take them to Dr. Oi. The puppies are examined, dewormed, and treated for ticks and fleas. Satya's preliminary treatment is complete. She is to be presented again in three days. The two puppies, which I call Yola and Shika, go to the front unit of the TVT Station for now, and Satya goes to Taco. The two of them know each other from the temple front hall.
In the late afternoon, I first feed the now six puppies and then the eight puppies with dry food. After that, I go through all the areas again, cleaning. Yola and Shika have retreated to a corner of the TVT Station where they are safe. I think they will warm up in the coming days.
Friday, 3 February 2023
In the morning, I buy puppy dry food and then head to the shelter. First, I check on Shika and Yola. They're not fully integrated yet, but they seem to be adjusting a little better now. Jappa is already showing them that they are the new ones here.
While I clean the double gate area and the house area, Pat arrives and takes over. I drive to Wat Yang Yai, where, with the help of a monk, I load four female puppies into a large metal crate and drop them off at Dr. Sudarat's clinic. Then, I visit Beppe. One of Beppe's dogs hasn't eaten for days. Dr. Sudarat determines that the dog has a fever and prescribes medication. I take Beppe and his dog back and head home to receive a delivery of vaccines.
In the late afternoon, I pick up the sterilized puppies from Sudarat Clinic and drop them off at the temple. I then return to the shelter, distribute the evening medications, and feed the puppies for the night.
Saturday, 4 February 2023
Jutta and I start our routine tasks. In the morning, Daniela comes to visit us. I give her a tour of the entire shelter while Jutta continues working. Back in the living area, I go to check on the puppies in the double gate section and, to my dismay, find Shika dead in the sand. I take Yola to the treatment room and bury Shika in the grassland behind the shelter.
After I've taken Daniela and Jutta to Pattaya, I return to the shelter, feed the dogs, and then clean all areas once more. Yola has already settled in the treatment room. Roshi accepts her presence.
Sunday, 5 February 2023
First, I check on Yola and Roshi. Yola is acting normally, and Roshi has accepted her presence. Jutta and I go about our routine tasks. After feeding the puppies first and then the big dogs, I'm at Dr. Oi's with Taco, Dotty, and Satya. All three are making progress in their recovery, but they still need to continue with medication.
Back at the shelter, Jutta has already completed all the cleaning tasks, washed the tubs and bowls, and refreshed the water.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, going through all the areas again to clean and then feeding the puppies for the night. Pat informs me that Josie is ready to take in Yola to try to find her a home.
Monday, 6 February 2023
Pat is already at work in the morning when I arrive. I distribute the morning medications and then clean the back areas. Pat is taking care of the house and front areas. While Pat feeds the dogs, I am at Wat Yang Yai and take in four more puppies. At the Chaiyapruek Clinic, an employee tells me that Dr. Sudarat is not working today. So the puppies will stay overnight at the clinic. Tomorrow, after they have been sterilized, I will take them back to the Wat.
I am then back with Beppe. Nina still doesn't want to eat and is also vomiting the medications that Beppe received from Dr. Sudarat. We go to Dr. Dee in Soi Nernplubwan, who gives Nina two shots. We hope it helps.
In the afternoon, I am back at the shelter, doing a cleaning round, distributing the evening medications, and feeding the puppies for the night.
Tuesday, 7 February 2023
I'm picking up 200 kg of dry food and bringing Gop 40 kg of it. As I enter the double-gate area, I see Asha dead in the sand. Since I have to assume that she was also bitten by Jade, I move Jade to the area where Amy, Jade's mother, and her siblings Pearl, Roxy, and Demi live. Jade immediately finds her way around, but her mother and siblings aren't exactly enthusiastic about the reintegration.
After burying Asha, I perform my routine tasks. Pat has prepared vegetables and meat again, which I mix with freshly cooked rice. Kylie, Roshi, all the puppies, and Dahn get some of it. Then I feed the remaining dogs with dry food. Afterward, I go through all the areas, cleaning. As soon as I'm done, it starts pouring rain like a torrent. In minutes, everything is under water. The double-gate area fills up completely, but the enclosure keeps the TVT station safe from the flood. Dahn and the eight puppies find shelter in the large Sala, and the three puppies in the TVT station. The big dogs already know how to protect themselves from the rain.
After the rain has subsided, I leave the dogs alone and pick up the four sterilized puppies from the Chaiyapruek Clinic. At Wat Yang Yai, a monk helps me get them out of the cage. The Ajahn joins us. I give him Doxycycline for the dogs' aftercare. In the coming week, I will bring more dogs from Wat to the clinic.
Back in Pattaya, I meet with Nick, who knows Pow well. Together we drive to Dr. Oi's. Pow is to be neutered there. After I drop Nick off, I go back to the shelter to check on things. Taco returns to the back unit of the TVT station, where Satya also lies, and the other dogs have the front unit available, as well as the now dry double-gate area again.
Wednesday, 8 February 2023
In the morning, I'm at Beppe's place. Beppe recently took in 3 puppies that now need to be spayed/neutered. Beppe wants to stay with the dogs at the clinic, so I drive to the temple. I meet all the dogs except Payu. I provide them with fresh water, apply a sulfur/coconut mixture to Jack, Talo, Tara, and Neung, and then set out again to search for Schlappi. I walk along the beach and the grassy, overgrown area behind it. I also inspect a section of the Soi that runs parallel to the beach. Schlappi is nowhere to be found.
After two hours, I'm back at the clinic. The puppies are currently being spayed/neutered. Beppe and I have to wait another hour before we can take the puppies home.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter. Pat and Robin have fed the dogs. I go through all the areas, cleaning and distributing medication. The dogs are full and content, and the puppies are still so stuffed that I skip the evening feeding.
Jade is doing pretty well among her siblings and with her mother. Amy seems to have forgiven her for being away for so long. Jade still has the best connection with me, though.
Thursday, 9 February 2023
Jutta and I are working through our routine again today. The puppies are getting rice food and the other dogs are getting dry food. In the afternoon, I'll pick up Pow from the clinic and bring him to Nick, who will keep him for three days because Pow needs to wear a collar. Then, I'll be back at the shelter to feed the puppies for the night.
Friday, 10 February 2023
Pat is working at the shelter today. I'll pick up Taco and Dotty first and drive them to Dr. Oi. Taco's lower back wound isn't healing, so he'll be treated and kept on Doxy and Prednisolone. Dotty is almost healed, and her newly applied bandage can be removed in three days.
I'll drop off the dogs at the shelter and then pick up Tommy and Satya. Tommy will undergo a blood test, and I'm concerned about him because he's underweight. Satya's healing process is going well, with only a small wound remaining on her left front leg, and the slight swelling on her back can be massaged away with a hot, damp cloth.
Getting back to the shelter, Pat is still feeding the dogs. I distribute the medication and clean all the areas. Since the puppies are still being bottle-fed, I'll skip their evening feeding.
Saturday, 11 February 2023
Since yesterday afternoon, we've had no power in the shelter. This limits our ability to work. We clean as best we can, but we also don't have any water. We fill the water containers with water from the barrel.
As Kylie's condition has worsened, we take her to Dr. Oi. Another mange test comes back negative. Dr. Oi prescribes Clindamycin, Chlorpheniramine, and fish oil to manage a bacterial infection. Unfortunately, she also has to give me some devastating news - Tommy's blood test results show a significantly elevated creatinine level of 4.7. This means Tommy's chances of survival are low. I will start administering saline solution to him daily starting tomorrow. In the afternoon, we get power back. After cleaning again, I feed all the dogs.
Sunday, 12 February 2023
In the morning, I clean the house, the surrounding area, and the double gate area before Chang Wai arrives with his assistant to finally replace all the damaged metal sheets. The work takes up the whole day. While the workers are busy, I feed the puppies with rice food that Pat had prepared, clean the areas, and feed the remaining dogs.
Monday, 13 February 2023
Pat, Robin, and I meet up at the shelter in the morning. Pat and Robin start with the cleaning and feeding, and I take Lucy and Billy on board. Lucy's stool has been liquid and bloody for two days. Billy has been bitten, probably by Tacco. It's time for Taco and Dotty to go back to the temple. Dotty can return soon, but Tacco's wound needs to fully heal first. Satya can stay for now. She's gradually getting used to the new situation and is better off at the shelter than in the temple.
Lucy's blood test shows no abnormalities. She is dewormed and will be treated with Metronidazole and Transmin for a week. Billy's wound is cleaned, and he will stay in the clinic for the next 24 hours. In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, cleaning all areas and distributing the medications.
Tuesday, 14 February 2023
Tommy spent the night well in the treatment room. Jutta starts cleaning, and I prepare the rice feed that Pat has prepared. Then I feed all the puppies, as well as Tommy and Kylie, with the rice feed. After that, I administer the first 200 ml of saline solution to Tommy, which goes very well, and then distribute the morning medications to Taco, Lucy, and Tommy. In the afternoon, I feed the big dogs and the puppies again. After that, I go through all the areas again, cleaning them up.
Wednesday, 15 February 2023
Dry dog food and puppy food is running low. Since the type of dry food I currently prefer is not available, I am forced to buy another brand; but I can get the puppy food. I bring the bags to the shelter where Pat is already working. Although it's rainy, I take Dotty on board and drop her off at the temple. Her healing process is complete. I buy rice for the next two weeks and store 20 kg of dry food into the temple chamber.
On my way back, I meet up with Ernst, who has spotted a dog in need of treatment. However, we can't find the dog. After that, I meet up with Christoph, whom I ask about marketing. In the afternoon, I go back to the shelter, clean, distribute medication, and give Tommy an infusion. The puppies are still full and don't need to be fed again.
Thursday, 16 February 2023
Jutta and I carry out our routine tasks. The puppies are getting rice food again. All eleven are developing very well, including the three new ones, Shaina, Jappa, and Kavi, who seem to be over the hump.
In the early afternoon, we take Taco on board. His wound has almost healed, and he's getting increasingly impatient. He's used to having complete freedom of movement on the beach, and living in the relatively limited double enclosure is not for him. At the temple beach, he immediately finds his way around and joins us on our beach walk. It was Jutta's first visit to the temple dogs. Now she knows them too.
On the way back to the shelter, I pick up 200 kg of dry food, feed the dogs for the night, and go through all the areas one more time to clean up, and then give Tommy the infusion. Pow has recovered well from the neutering and is back to his place next to the Pong administrative building.
Friday, 17 February 2023
This morning, I'm back at Wat Yang Yai. There's only one more puppy to sterilize. I bring him to Dr. Sudarat. In the early afternoon, I bring the puppy back to the Wat. Now, there's only one mother dog and her puppies left to sterilize, but they're not weaned yet.
On the way back, I buy another 200 kg of dry food, store it, and clean all areas in the shelter. Pat has already fed them. After I've cleaned and distributed the medications, I give Tommy his infusion. Pat had told me that he ate very well.
Saturday, 18 February 2023
I feed the puppies, Kylie and Tommy, with rice-based food that Pat had prepared. Afterward, I distribute the medications and clean all areas. Jutta takes care of the drinking water supply. In the afternoon, I also feed the big dogs and the puppies a second time. Then, I administer Tommy's infusion.
Sunday, 19 February 2023
Today is a routine day. Jutta is cleaning, I'm handing out the morning medications, then feeding all the puppies and disposing of the poop. Water only needs to be refilled inside the house. Satya has settled in at the TVT station. I won't be taking her back to the temple.
Dahn's puppies are getting more playful. Every now and then, I have to step in between them when it gets too wild. It's good that they now have the opportunity to move back and forth between the Pat area and the big Sala area. Tommy is still acting completely normal. After feeding all the dogs in the afternoon, he gets his sixth infusion.
Monday, 20 February 2023
In the morning, Pat calls me to the shelter. The dogs in the house area have demolished a metal sheet, and some dogs have run onto the neighboring property. However, it's also possible that the new neighbors opened the shelter fence, as Pat finds a few empty beer bottles in the house area. This is how the terror started at the Mabprachan house as well. Pat manages to catch the dogs before I arrive at the shelter. I repair the fence as best I can and also barricade the repaired metal sheets.
In the afternoon, Ernst arrives at my resort, and we drive to the shelter. There, I show him around some areas. The dogs are nice, but such a bustle is not for everyone, and it's not for Ernst either. But he at least gets an impression of what I deal with every day. Pat has fed the dogs, so I just need to clean the areas. Afterward, I take some time to take a few pictures.
Tuesday, 21 February 2023
This morning, I see that several dogs are hanging around in the neighboring area once again. They have dug their way under the metal sheet fence. However, Paco, Mika, and Tinka quickly come back when I call them. I barricade the hole and start cleaning the house, the area around the house, and the double gate area.
Then I take Billy and Tommy on board and bring them to Dr. Oi. Tommy's repeated creatinine test now shows an even higher value of 5.7. As a result, Tommy will receive a daily infusion until his kidneys stop functioning, and he will pass away. It's uncertain how long this will take, but with such a high value, Tommy's condition could deteriorate rapidly in a short time. I will try to make his last days as comfortable as possible. Despite his illness, Tommy moves around the house area with ease today and is accepted by all the dogs. After some time, though, he returns to the treatment room, where I administer the infusion.
Afterward, I feed the puppies with prepared rice food first and then the other dogs with dry food. Tommy doesn't touch the rice food. Kylie eats it with enthusiasm. Afterward, I first feed the puppies with prepared rice food, and then the rest of the dogs with dry food. Tommy doesn't touch the rice food. Kylie eats it with appetite. With her, I begin a one-month Clindamycin/Chlorpheniramine treatment. Her fur condition is concerning. Let's hope this new treatment shows results.
While disposing of the feces in the afternoon, Kaya surprisingly greets me at the back gate. She had also escaped, but I hadn't noticed her outside before. Kaya is relieved to see me and willingly follows me to the entrance gate, where I can let her back into the house area without any issues.
Wednesday, 22 February 2023
Pat is working again today. In between, we're vaccinating all eleven puppies together, and I'm administering the infusion to Tommy. After that, I'm taking Mona to Dr. Oi to check if another Vincristine treatment is necessary. It turns out it's not, but Mona still has a small, not fully closed wound near her anus. This issue could not be fixed since I took Mona in. However, the wound is superficial and just needs to be monitored.
In the early afternoon, I leave Pat alone with the dogs and head to the auto repair shop. An oil change is due, and the brakes aren't gripping properly. The repair takes until early evening, so a second shelter visit has to be canceled today.
Thursday, 23 February 2023
Together with Jutta, I'm going through the routine today. The puppies, Kylie and Tommy, are given prepared rice food, and the remaining dogs get dry food. However, Tommy hardly eats. I administer the infusion to him. Afterward, I let him stay outside for a while. In the late afternoon, I feed the puppies a second time and give out the evening medications.
Friday, 24 February 2023
Jutta called in sick, so I'm working from early morning until late afternoon. The day starts with me picking up one of the puppies that Serge takes care of. Serge told me that the puppy has been feeling unwell for two days. Then, I pick up Daria from the parking lot of the Pong amusement park. Daria isn't putting weight on her right hind leg properly. Sometimes it gets better, and then she walks on three legs again.
I take both dogs to Dr. Oi. The puppy, which I've named Tibor, has diarrhea and is tested for Parvo. The test comes back negative. Tibor receives an IV and stays overnight at the clinic for observation. Daria gets an X-ray, which shows no abnormalities. At the clinic, she starts walking on all fours again. I'm instructed to give her calcium and painkillers for a week. Daria goes back to Masha in the parking lot and is now walking on all fours again.
Afterward, I go to the shelter, clean the house, the house area, and the double gate area, and feed all the puppies. Then I move from area to area, cleaning and change the water in the bowls and tubs. Once that's done, I give Tommy his IV treatment. Kylie gets her medications. After that, I feed the puppies for a second time and then all the other dogs dry food.
Saturday, 25 February 2023
Today, I'm working on my own again at the shelter, cleaning, feeding all the dogs, and refilling their water. Tommy's condition is still stable. I cooked him some meat which he's eating. He can go outside freely, and the household dogs accept his presence, but he prefers to stay mostly in the treatment room. I'm continuing with the daily administration of saline solution, and Tommy is quite patient with it.
In the late afternoon, I'm picking up Tibor from the clinic. Tibor has recovered well, and I'm bringing him back to his place. Serge takes care of the puppies there every day. I will now see Tibor in the mornings and evenings for a week to administer Doxycycline and Ferric to him. The other puppies are also doing quite well. When it's time for the shelter puppies to receive their second vaccination, they will be vaccinated as well. I also see Daria in the early evening. She's now walking normally, but I'm still administering her medication and will continue to do so for a week.
Sunday, 26 February 2023
Today is Pat's last day of work for now. She and her husband have to live in Australia for one month every six months to avoid a pension reduction. I use the time to take care of necessary errands. In between, I look after Tibor and Daria and then spend the afternoon at the shelter. There, I clean the house and all the areas and dispose of the feces. After that, I administer the infusion to Tommy. Tommy, although sometimes weak on his legs, still behaves relatively normally. The puppies get dry food for the night.
Monday, 27 February 2023
Jutta has recovered and is able to work again. So we can get our work done within four hours. Pat has put puppy food, consisting of cooked vegetables, meat, and rice, in the fridge again. I extend the food with rice so that all puppies can be fed in the morning. After feeding the puppies, I give Tommy his infusion. Then, I move him back to Kenji and close the gate to their area. Kenji has been attacked. Since he is so old and can barely see anything anymore, he can't defend himself well. I will try to give Tommy the infusions in his own area. I'll have to improvise a bit, but I think it will work.
In the afternoon, I am with Serge's puppies. Tibor seems to be completely healthy again. However, I will continue with the treatment. There are only five puppies left now. Four of them are very trusting now. However, the mother still barks at me. I find a big bowl and fill it with fresh water. Food is still available.
Then I am with Daria and Masha. Meefoo and Dodo also come by. I give Daria her medication. She is now walking normally again. Then I am back at the shelter and feed all the dogs. The puppies get dry food. Afterwards, I clean up and fill up the water again. All dogs except Kylie are doing well. She continues to receive her medication.
Tuesday, 28 February 2023
In the morning, I'm back with Tibor and his siblings. Tibor is doing great again. I will discontinue the Doxy treatment starting tomorrow, and only administer Ferric. I will also give Ferric to the other puppies. Then, I'm at the Pong parking lot and give Daria her medications. I won't be giving her painkillers any longer since she's walking normally again. But I will continue giving her calcium for a few more days.
Tommy made it through the night staying with Kenji. All the other dogs are in good shape. I clean the house, the house area, and the double-gate area, and then feed all the puppies with puppy dry food. Afterwards, I clean the rest of the areas.
In the afternoon, I give Tommy his infusion in the sala in the area where he and Kenji stay. The door to the Dodger area remains closed for now. After that, I feed the puppies a second time and then all the other dogs. Kenji and Tommy also get cooked meat in addition to their regular food.
In the morning, I give Tibor and his five siblings their first dose of Ferric. Then, I drive to the shelter with Jutta. We take care of the routine tasks there. In between, I notice that something is wrong with Aki. I take him to Dr. Oi. A blood test reveals alarmingly low blood values and indicates a severe infection; liver and kidney values are normal. Aki is put on an IV drip and passes away after ten minutes. Since he is bleeding from his mouth and anus, internal bleeding is likely. Dr. Oi can't determine the exact cause of the infection. However, the course of the disease resembles that of Patty. Her condition also deteriorated within two days. Just yesterday, I hadn't noticed anything unusual about Aki's condition.
I take Aki back to the shelter, and we finish our tasks. At the NPW Clinic, I drop Aki off for cremation. Then I'm at the shelter, taking care of the dogs there. I still miss Payu and now Deva too. All the other dogs are doing well. In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the puppies a second time, administering an infusion to Tommy in the Kenji area, and distributing medications to Kylie.
Thursday, 2 March 2023
In the morning, I'm with Jutta at the Mabprachan puppies, which are being taken care of by Serge. The puppies have already been fed, and there is still rice and dry food available. We administer Ferric to the puppies again. They are all in good health. Tibor is still wearing his collar.
On our way to the shelter, we pick up Prednisilone and meat. At the shelter, Jutta starts cleaning while I prepare food for Tommy, Kylie, and Roshi. Tommy eats quite well, and there's some left for Kenji too. Roshi and Kylie always have a good appetite. Since Kylie refuses the Clindamycin capsules, I dissolve the powder in fish oil and administer it to her with a syringe. The small Chlorpheniramine tablet takes Kylie with a slice of sausage. I then feed all the puppies with dry food. Afterward, I dispose of the feces and refill the water. Meanwhile, Jutta cleans the house.
In the afternoon, I feed the puppies a second time and then all the other dogs. Finally, I go through all the areas one more time to clean and administer the infusion to Tommy.
Friday, 3 March 2023
Today is another full workday for me. I clean, distribute medications, dispose of waste, refill water, and then feed the puppies. In the early afternoon, Christoph, Kati, and Lee come to visit us. I show them the front areas. Of course, the puppies are the main attraction.
After the visitors leave, I feed the big dogs and the puppies once more. Then I'm with Norbu at Dr. Oi's. Norbu has been hiding all day and seems to be sick. The blood test result shows a reduced number of red blood cells. Norbu is put on an IV and stays at the clinic.
Later, I'm with Khun Apisit to pick up 200 kg of dry food. On the way home, I stop by the Mabprachan puppies. They are well cared for and in good health. The Pong dogs are also doing well. Daria is still walking normally.
Saturday, 4 March 2023
In the morning, I'm with Jutta at the Mabprachan puppies. I administer ferric to them and we powder them for fleas. All the puppies seem to continue to be healthy. Food and water are available to them. At the shelter, we carry out our routine tasks, such as administering medication, feeding, cleaning, and refilling the water bowls. I give Tommy his daily infusion and then feed him rice and meat. However, during his meal, he starts to have convulsions. It's only when I lay him down that he calms down.
In between, I'm with Pinky at Dr. Oi's. Pinky has a small cut on her left front paw pad that won't heal. Pinky gets bandaged up. Norbu is still on an IV. His condition is critical. Dr. Oi says the next three days will show whether he'll make it through.
Sunday, 5 March 2023
I arrive at the shelter early in the morning and start cleaning. Chang Wai comes with a helper, and I explain to him what I plan to fix. Unfortunately, when we get to the shop, we find out that it's closed. However, Chang Wai tells me that he can weld the metal door for the treatment room at his place. Tomorrow morning, we'll try again to get the necessary materials for the remaining repairs.
At the shelter, I carry out my routine tasks of administering medication, cleaning, feeding, and providing an infusion for Tommy. I then visit Dr. Oi to check on Norbu. He seems to be doing better, but he still needs to stay in the clinic.
Monday, 6 March 2023
Early this morning, Chang Wai arrives at the shelter with his assistant, and shortly after, the materials Chang Wai ordered are delivered. Chang Wai starts building the inner fence for the large Sala area, and I begin cleaning. In the late morning, Jutta arrives and continues the cleaning work while I feed the dogs.
Serge calls me to inform that two of the puppies were run over by a car. We meet at the puppy area, and I decide to take in the remaining five puppies. We can't get close to the mother, but she will be sterilized at the next opportunity. The five new puppies initially go to the front unit of the TVT station. The two males, one of which is Tibor, and a female puppy adapt quickly. The other two female puppies hide away at first. After they've gained trust, I let Japa, Shaina, and Kavi join them, and later, I open the door to the unit so that Billy, Chip, Satya, Khiaow, and Dotty can also meet the new puppies. In the afternoon, all five puppies come out of the unit and explore their new surroundings. The double gate area is gradually becoming too crowded, and a solution for redistributing the dogs needs to be found.
At noon, I pick up Norbu from the clinic. He's over the worst, but he's not back to his old self yet. So I leave him in the treatment room for the night to continue recovering in peace.
Tuesday, 7 March 2023
My first glance is at the five new puppies in the double gate area. They stay in the protected area of the TVT station but come out when I call them. They are doing well and seem to have settled in a bit. There are no problems with the big dogs. Then I check on Norbu. He seems to have recovered further, so I bring him back to the big Sala area.
Chang Wai and his assistant come and work on setting up the inner fence in the house area. They've brought the metal door to replace the damaged door to the treatment room. Jutta and I go through our routine. The medications are distributed, the house and areas cleaned, water refilled, and all the dogs fed.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter and feeding the puppies for the night. Then I'm with the Pong dogs. Michael asked me to feed Daria, Masha, Dodo, Meefoo, and Rico for the next five days. Kolja is also part of the group, who apparently has an owner nearby but often joins the parking lot dogs. I'm gradually getting in touch with him as well.
Wednesday, 8 March 2023
While Jutta cleans and I feed, I see Jampa lying dead in the Pat area. Just yesterday, he was healthy and lively. I examine him for a snakebite, but I can't find any bite marks. His death is baffling to me. I bury Jampa in the field behind the shelter.
Meanwhile, Norbu seems to have fully recovered. The eight puppies in the double-gate area are also doing well. I take each one into the treatment room, remove some ticks on them, and weigh them. Then they go back to their area.
In the afternoon, I feed all the dogs again. The five new ones get rice-based food. Jutta replenishes the water, I dispose of the feces, and administer the infusion to Tommy. After six hours of work in the heat, me and Jutta are both exhausted.
Thursday, 9 March 2023
All the dogs in the double gate area are doing well. The five puppies mingle with the big dogs and greet me at the gate. I begin cleaning the house area and the double gate area. In the large Sala area, I only see the big dogs along with Jomo, Talib, and Norbu. Usually, all the dogs greet me at the gate to the area. Under the Sala, I find, to my horror, Yana, Hakim, Arkan, and Kito lying motionless. I approach Yana and Hakim first – both are dead. Arkan and Kito are still alive but are very weak. I bring Yana and Hakim to safety and take Arkan and Kito to Dr. Oi. They are treated immediately. Both have liquid diarrhea and are tested for Parvo. The test comes back negative.
I drive back to the shelter and bury Yana and Hakim. I lock the three remaining puppies together with Dahn in the Pat area. They show no signs of illness. However, Norbu has developed a swelling on his left flank. I feed all the puppies and the dogs in the large Sala area and then continue with my cleaning work.
In the afternoon, I'm back at Dr. Oi's, this time with Pinky and Norbu. Pinky's paw wound has healed, and Norbu's swelling is being treated with a laser. Arkan and Kito are still alive. Arkan is still very weak, but Kito is doing a bit better. Both puppies are still on IV drips. I hope they will make it through the night. Back at the shelter, Pinky goes back to the house area, and Norbu goes to Dahn, Talib, and Jomo. I feed the remaining dogs and then administer Tommy's infusion.
Friday, 10 March 2023
This morning, I noticed in the double gate area that Japa is not doing well. He is sitting alone and looking worried. I immediately took him to Dr. Oi, who put him on an IV drip. In the early evening, Dr. Oi informed me that Japa had passed away. He, too, was found to have bloody diarrhea. Japa had not had any contact with the Dahn puppies. The double gate area and the area of the large Sala are separated by the house area. I am now very worried that other puppies may also become ill from this apparent bacterial infection in the coming days.
Arkan and Kito are still alive in the evening. They seem to be on the road to recovery. Tommy, my current additional concern, is still holding on bravely; Jutta was able to feed him wet food. Norbu, Talib, and Jomo are still in the Pat area with Dahn. Their condition is normal. Since Pinky often fights with Nuri, I moved Nuri to be with Dahn and the three puppies. Nuri seems to approve of the relocation. I tried the same with Lizzy since she often bickers with the other dogs in the house and is not particularly popular. However, she insisted on going back into the house.
Throughout the day, Jutta and I performed routine tasks like distributing medication, cleaning, refilling water, and feeding all the dogs. In the late afternoon, I went back to the shelter and fed the puppies in the double gate area, as well as Dahn, Nuri, and the three puppies for a second time.
Late in the evening, I went to the Pong parking lot dogs and fed them for the night. It will be the last time for now. Starting Sunday, Michael will take over again.
Saturday, 11 March 2023
To check if Kavi and Shaina are also infected, I take them both to Dr. Oi for examination. In the meantime, Jutta takes over supervision at the shelter. The blood test results for the two puppies also show an infection. They are put on IVs and remain in the clinic. Kito is doing better, and I might be able to take him back with me tomorrow. Arkan still has diarrhea.
Back at the shelter, I distribute the medications and then we move the five puppies Tibor, Tarik, Tessa, Tasha, and Tina to the Pat area with Dahn, Nuri, Norbu, Jomo, and Talib. Nuri, Dahn, Jomo, and Talib accept the newcomers right away, while Norbu takes a bit longer. It doesn't take long for the five new puppies to find their way around. At first, I stay with the dogs and then check on them repeatedly while I do my routine tasks.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the puppies a second time and then all the other dogs. Tommy then receives his daily IV treatment. In the evening, I go back to the clinic. Dr. Oi informs me that I can take Kito back with me. Arkan, Shaina, and Kavi still need to stay.
Sunday, 12 March 2023
However, Arkan and Shaina seem to be recovering, and I take them back with me. Arkan joins the puppies in the Pat area, and Shaina goes to Satya in the back unit of the TVT station. Together with Jutta, I then carry out the routine tasks.
In the late afternoon, I am back at the clinic. Kavi is still not out of the woods, and Tarik is also not looking good. Back at the shelter, I feed the dogs. The four remaining black puppies, Tibor, Tasha, Tina, and Tessa, are behaving normally. Kito and Arkan are already play-fighting and seem to be recovering. Shaina appears to be stable.
Monday, 13 March 2023
At first this morning, I go to check on Shaina at the TVT Station. I see the floor covered in bloody diarrhea and immediately think that Shaina has died. But she's squatting in a clean corner, and a weight lifts off my heart. I briefly check on the puppies in the Pat-area. Tarik, Arkan, and Kito seem to be doing well. However, Tessa seems too calm to me.
I then take her and Shaina to Dr. Oi, where Shaina is immediately put on IV fluids. Tessa has a slightly elevated temperature. After an injection, I can take her back with me. She, like all the other puppies, should continue to receive Doxycycline.
Tessa goes back to the Pat-area, and I start cleaning up. Afterwards, I feed the puppies first, then all the other dogs. I open a can of Pedigree for Tommy, but can't convince him to eat anything. He's completely emaciated by now. At least he still drinks after I've administered the infusion.
The Clindamycin/Chlorpheniramine treatment doesn't seem to be working for Kylie. Her skin condition is terrible to look at. At least she's not scratching and she's eating. I've decided to keep Dotty with us for the time being. This way, I can take better care of her and keep her under observation.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the clinic. Shaina is still alive and responsive to me. Kavi is also still alive, but he looks very worried. Like Shaina, he's still suffering from bloody diarrhea.
Tuesday, 14 March 2023
In the morning, Jutta and I pick up Robin at Mabprachan Reservoir. Together, we begin our daily tasks. I distribute the medications and check on the puppies. The bigger puppies are doing well. Tibor and Tarik seem to do well, but I keep an eye on Tasha and Tessa because they're hiding under a pallet.
In the late morning, Claudia visits us. She wants to look around the shelter and offer her help. I show her the dogs in the front areas, and then Robin and Jutta give her an orientation. We take Tommy to the treatment room because he has hidden in a hole in the ground. It seems like his time is running out. Claudia stays with him. I go to Pattaya to keep an appointment.
In the early afternoon, I return to the shelter. Jutta, Robin, and Claudia have already completed most of the work. Robin has even already fed most of the dogs. I feed the puppies. Tessa and Tasha don't seem to be improving. Tommy has recovered a bit. Claudia has decided to come back tomorrow.
Since I want to introduce Tessa and Tasha to Dr. Oi, I take them to the clinic. Their blood is tested and shows similar results to the previous tests on the other puppies. Tasha is stable enough for me to take her back to the shelter. I take Tessa home with me so I can keep an eye on her during the night.
Wednesday, 15 March 2023
In the evening, Tessa starts vomiting and in the morning I find bloody diarrhea on the floor. I take Jutta to the shelter and check on the puppies. Claudia arrives and is briefed by Jutta. To monitor whether they vomit or have bloody stool, I take Tarik, Tibor, Tasha, and Tina to the treatment room.
Kito has gotten rid of his bandage, so I take him and Tessa to see Dr. Oi. Kito is re-bandaged and needs to wear a collar. Tessa is put on an IV drip. Shaina still has bloody diarrhea and is also on a drip.
Back at the shelter, I distribute the medications and then go to the temple. Like every two weeks, I put a bag of dry food in the temple room. Ba Bät is currently feeding the dogs. I ask her about Deva and Payu, whom I still don't see. However, Ba Bät can't help me either. After refilling the water, I go to the beach with Talo, Jake, and Taco. We are greeted on the way by Kofi and Toto. Fortunately, the condition of Taco and Jake's fur has improved. I give the woman who takes care of three puppies and two older dogs at the beach eggs and money so she can buy rice for them.
Then I return to the shelter. Jutta has held the fort. Tommy and the puppies in the treatment room are still alive. I take Kito back to the Pat-area. There, all the puppies seem to be doing well. First, I feed them, then all the remaining dogs. Finally, I administer the infusion to Tommy. He stays in the treatment room overnight with Tibor, Tarik, Tasha, and Tina.
Thursday, 16 March 2023
The floor of the treatment room where Tommy spent the night with Tarik, Tibor, Tiny, and Tasha is covered in bloody feces. Jutta and Claudia take care of cleaning and other tasks, while I take the four puppies to see Dr. Oi. I can take Tina home, but Tibor, Tarik, and Tasha need to be put on an IV. Tina doesn't have bloody diarrhea.
Back at the shelter, Jutta tells me that Norbu has vomited. I take him to the treatment room to keep a closer eye on him. Tina goes with him as well. I distribute the medication and feed the puppies while Jutta and Claudia clean and replace the water. Then I give Tommy the infusion. He's very weak, but he keeps fighting.
In the afternoon, I'm back at Dr. Oi's clinic. Tasha and Tibor are doing relatively well, but Tarik and Tessa are on the brink. Shaina seems to be feeling a bit better, so I can take her back with me tomorrow. At the shelter, I feed the puppies and dogs in the back areas; the house dogs and dogs in the double gate area will have to wait until tomorrow morning.
Friday, 17 March 2023
In the morning, I find bloody diarrhea again in the treatment room. I assume it's from Tina. Tommy continues to fight for his dear life. I let him out into the house area and lock Norbu and Tina in a kennel to clean up. Claudia arrives and begins cleaning the areas. Tommy goes back into the cleaned treatment room, and Norbu goes to the Pat-area to join Dahn, his siblings, and Nuri. I can't find any symptoms on him. I distribute the morning medications and feed the puppies.
With Tina, I go to see Dr. Oi. Bloody diarrhea is also found in her. She is put on a drip. Tibor, Tarik, Tasha, and Tessa are also still on a drip. Tibor has the most severe diarrhea but seems to be the strongest of the four. Tessa and Tarik are not doing well, Tasha is holding on bravely. All five puppies remain in the clinic.
I can take Shaina back with me. She is not completely healthy yet, but she is getting better. I leave her with the dogs she knows in the double gate area. After cleaning the house, Claudia drives off, and I take care of Khiaow in the double gate area, where I found ticks on her. Then I also examine Chip, Satya, and Dotty. I have to remove ticks from all of them. The only one I don't find ticks on is Billy, who recently received Bravecto. I also examine dogs in the house area randomly and only find one tick on Lizzy. Lizzy is often in the double gate area. I will have to examine all the dogs in the house area carefully as soon as I find time to do that.
Saturday, 18 March 2023
Jutta and I are doing our morning routine tasks. In the Pat-area, I find Kito without a collar, and the bandage is in the dirt. So, I have to take him back to Dr. Oi. All five puppies are still alive, but only Tibor has a chance of being released tomorrow. Tarik, Tiny, and Tessa are still on the edge. Tasha seems to be gradually recovering.
Kito gets a collar with double security and goes back to the treatment room with Tommy, who is still holding on. Shaina has found her way around the double-gate area quite well and is accepted by the big dogs.
In the afternoon, I get new dry food and sausages for medication administration. I feed all the dogs and clean up again afterward. Jutta has replaced the water in all areas. Kito goes back to the Pat-area.
Sunday, 19 March 2023
Shaina is doing well with the big dogs in the double-gate area. She still has some diarrhea, but it's not bloody. The puppies with Dahn and Nuri in the Pat area are also doing well. Their poop looks normal.
Jutta and I are starting our cleaning duties. I notice an inflamed ear flap on Tinka and take her to the clinic. She has to stay there until the afternoon because she needs to be sedated for treatment. Tibor is now well enough for me to take him back with me. I ask Dr. Oi again about the cause of all the bloody diarrhea, and she is now pretty sure it's Parvo. Tarik, Tessa, Tasha, and Tina still have to stay in the clinic. Tibor goes to the double-gate area with Shaina, Billy, Chip, Dotty, Khiaow, and Satya. He knows the big dogs and will make friends with Shaina. She's only about 2 months older than him.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter. Claudia comes and brings boiled eggs and rice food. First, I feed the puppies and then the remaining dogs. I prepared rice food for the puppies, which I mix with Claudia's rice food and eggs. The puppies, Nuri, and Dahn clean out the contents of a ten-liter bucket. Thai dogs are obviously genetically programmed for rice.
Then I go through all the areas cleaning and give Tommy his infusion. After that I am back to Dr. Oi's clinic. Tinka's treatment was a bigger deal than expected. She wears a thick bandage and is on a drip. But I can pick her up tomorrow. Tarik, Tasha, Tina, and Tessa all seem to be on the road to recovery.
Monday, 20 March 2023
Today, Robin is helping me again. Robin knows what to do, works very efficiently, and gets along great with the dogs. Together, we clean up, with Robin cleaning bowls and tubs and refilling water while I distribute medication and feed the dogs.
Because Tiny is frequently harassed in the house area, I try to place her with the puppies. To make her feel less isolated, I also bring her sister Kaya along. However, as it did not work out before, the attempt fails again, and Tiny especially wants to go back to the house area. The puppies, Nuri, and Dahn are doing well in the Pat-area, and Shaina and Tibor continue to get along well with the big dogs in the double gate area. Shaina and Tibor, who didn't know each other before, become friends.
I take Robin back to Pattaya and am then back at the shelter in the afternoon. Since Tommy is getting weaker and doesn't want anything except water, I take him to Dr. Oi, who keeps him overnight. Tarik, Tasha, and Tessa have recovered enough for me to take them back with me. Tinka also returns with us. All four go to the double gate area. The puppies and Tinka already know the dogs there, and there is enough space for everyone in the two units of the TVT station and the outdoor area.
Tuesday, 21 March 2023
My first morning glance is towards the puppies in the double gate area. Shaina, Tibor, Tarik, Tessa, and Tasha are all doing well. The big dogs have accepted them, and the puppies especially love to hang out with Dotty, who takes care of them lovingly. Robin is back at the shelter. I don't need to tell her what to do, so I take care of giving medication and feeding the puppies in the double gate area and the ones in the Pat-area.
Nina got a wound on her back two days ago, and it's not healing, so I took her to Dr. Oi. Tommy is on a drip, and Tina still needs further treatment. Despite all our efforts, Tommy won't live much longer, but I hope to be able to take Tina back with me as soon as she has recovered. Tina is going to stay in the treatment room overnight, and I'll feed the puppies first and then the rest of the dogs. Robin has renewed the water in all the areas. Therefore I just have to go through all the areas to clean them up. All ten puppies received Ferric.
Wednesday, 22 March 2023
Dr. Oi informs me that Tommy passed away during the night and that I can pick up Tina. This morning, Jutta and Claudia are helping me. They clean and refill the water; meanwhile, I distribute the medications.
Nina has removed her bandage, but that's not a big deal since I have to introduce her to Dr. Oi today anyway. The wound is treated anew, and Nina is given a shirt to wear. With two living and one deceased dog, I return to the shelter. Tina joins her siblings in the double gate area, and Nina goes back to the treatment room. Jutta and Claudia have finished cleaning, so all I have left to do is feed the ten puppies.
In the afternoon, I take Tommy to be cremated at the NPW Clinic and buy meat for tomorrow. Back at the shelter, I first feed the larger dogs and then feed the puppies again as it gets dark. Tina vomits, so I put her with Nina in the treatment room for the night. There, she eats some puppy food. As is now the routine every evening, all the puppies receive Ferric.
Thursday, 23 March 2023
Claudia is helping me again this morning. While she cleans, I distribute the medication and then cook meat and rice. Claudia has also brought some rice-based dog food and cooked rice. I mix the rice food and feed Nina and Tina in the treatment room first. Tina seems to be feeling a bit better, as she eats a little. I then feed the puppies in the double-gate area and the dogs in the Pat area afterwards. The puppies in the double-gate area are doing better than yesterday, and the puppies in the Pat area seem to have finally recovered. After washing the pans and food bowls, I help Claudia clean the back areas, dispose of the feces, and a bunch of palm fronds.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the puppies a second time and then the big dogs. After that, all the puppies get Ferric administered again. Since Tina seems to have recovered, she goes back to her siblings in the double-gate area. Nina will stay in the treatment room until Saturday. Then, I'll present her, Kito, and Tinka to Dr. Oi again.
Friday, 24 March 2023
First thing in the morning, I check on the puppies in the double-gate area. All five are doing well, and Tina seems to have recovered too. Billy, Chip, Dotty, Khiaow, and Satya have accepted the puppies, who obviously feel safe among them. While I clean the double-gate area and the house area, Claudia arrives. I distribute medication, feed the puppies in the double-gate area and in the Pat-area. Claudia cleans the back areas.
At noon, I feed the big dogs and Claudia cleans the house. Nina seems to be quite comfortable in the treatment room. In the afternoon, I feed all the puppies again and clean all areas. The puppies receive Ferric again.
Saturday, 25 March 2023
Jutta is helping me again today. While I prepare the food for the puppies and distribute the medications, she cleans and refills the bowls with fresh water. In the meantime, I feed the puppies with rice mixed with meat, canned food, and eggs. The puppies in the double-gate area are doing well. Shaina and Tibor are the most stable, but Tarik, Tessa, Tasha, and Tina are also visibly recovering.
At noon, I'm with Nina, Tinka, and Kito at Dr. Oi's. Nina and Kito get new bandages, Tinka has her ear bandage removed. All three dogs still need to be treated with medication. Kito and Nina stay in the treatment room; I let Tinka return to the house area. In the afternoon, I feed the big dogs first and then give the puppies their second round. Afterward, I clean up once more.
Sunday, 26 March 2023
My first morning glance is always to the puppies. They're doing well among the bigger dogs. I clean the front areas and then prepare rice food for the puppies. After that, I distribute the medicine. Once I've cleaned the back areas, I feed the six puppies in the double gate area and then the puppies in the Pat- area. In the afternoon, I also feed all the other dogs and later the puppies receive dry food for the night.
Wednesday, 29 March 2023Saturday, 1 April 2023
Later that morning, I am with Dahn at Dr. Sudarat's clinic. While Dahn is being sterilized, I am at the temple buying rice for the dogs and giving Ba Bät the usual bag of dry food. I was never sure if the food I put into the temple chamber had reached the dogs at the front hall. Ba Bät will now get the food to feed the dogs there. The dogs will continue to receive rice food as before.
Except for Payu, who has probably joined the other temple dogs, I find all the dogs in the temple area. Deva has also shown up again. Toto and Kofi are doing well, and they are being taken care of by the residents of the beach. I notice fur problems in Jake, who has been living in the temple for almost ten years. I assume that they are caused by malnutrition. To give Jake nutritious food again, I take him with me to the shelter.
On the way back to the shelter, we pick up Dahn. Both dogs go to the area with Nuri and the big puppies. Jake has little trouble adjusting to the new environment and the puppies. Dahn still needs to recover from sterilization, which usually takes one to two days.
After Jutta leaves, I first feed all the puppies with rice food and then the remaining dogs with dry food. All the puppies seem healthy and lively. I hope we can get all eleven of them through.
Sunday, 2 April 2023
In the morning, as I do every day, I first check on the puppies and also on Dahn, followed by Dina. All the puppies are doing well, Dahn is recovering, and Kenji seems to have accepted Dina's presence. I also get the impression that Dina is relieved to have escaped Cookie's influence.
Jutta cleans and refreshes the water. I prepare the rice-based food, administer the medications, and then feed the puppies first, followed by all the other dogs. In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter and feed the puppies in the double-gate area. The larger puppies still have plenty of food in their bowls.
Monday, 3 April 2023
Pat is working at the shelter this morning, cleaning the house and front areas, and feeding all the dogs. In the afternoon, I am at the shelter distributing medications, cleaning, and refilling water. It seems that Jake is not getting along in Pat's area after all. The puppies appear to not accept his presence, so I took Jake to stay in one of the house kennels for the night. Dahn seems to be recovering well. I examined her surgical wound, and it feels normal. Dina attempted to enter the large Sala area through the fence. I repaired the damage, and tomorrow, we will see if Dina can settle in. She has no issues with Kenji, and he has none with her.
Tuesday, 4 April 2023
Today, Jutta is once again lending me a helping hand with the clean-up and refreshing the drinking water for the dogs. I prepare the rice-based food for the puppies and distribute the medications. After that, I feed the puppies first, followed by the rest of the dogs. While I'm in the house, I let Maggie out of her kennel. Surprisingly, she seamlessly mingles with the house dogs. In the early afternoon, I put her back in her kennel just to be safe. Later in the afternoon, I return to the shelter, clean up again, and feed the puppies dry food.
Wednesday, 5 April 2023
This morning, Pat is at the shelter. Pat always brings prepared rice food, which she mixes with dry food. This way, even the big dogs get to eat some rice. Pat and I are trying to reunite Dahn and the puppies with the dogs in the area of the large Sala. Since the integration goes smoothly, we also bring Dina back. She wasn't very happy living with Kenji. For now, Nuri prefers to stay in Pat's area. However, the door between the two areas remains open.
In the late afternoon, I stop by the shelter again briefly to feed the puppies in the double-gate area for the night. They aren't very hungry. The attempt to combine the dogs from Pat's area with those from the large Sala area seems to have worked. Nuri is still in Pat's area.
Thursday, 6 April 2023
I'm always a bit concerned when I've newly integrated or regrouped dogs. However, I'm relieved to see that Jake has been accepted in the double-gate area, and Dina has settled back into the large Sala area. The puppies mostly stay there as well. Nuri still prefers to hang out in the Pat area. Maggie is also doing quite well in the house area, but I cautiously lock her in her kennel when I leave the house area.
Jutta cleans the areas and refills the water while I prepare the rice-based food for the puppies, distribute medications, and feed the puppies. In the afternoon, I return to the shelter, feed the large dogs and the puppies a second time, and clean all the areas. All dogs are doing well.
Friday, 7 April 2023
Today, Pat is feeding and cleaning up at the shelter. While she's at work, a sudden downpour floods part of the house area. For the five puppies in the double-gate area, it's the first heavy rain shower of their young lives, but they manage to get through it unscathed.
In the afternoon, I go to the shelter and clean up again. Zola has been attacked and is hiding so deep under a sala that I can't get her out. With Jutta's help, we'll move Zola to the treatment room tomorrow. Nina has recovered enough to return to her area with Bum and Beppe.
Saturday, 8 April 2023
With Jutta's help, I first bring Nina back to her area and then take Zola to the treatment room to tend to her wounds. She has been bitten in several places, but the injuries are not severe. For the time being, Zola will stay in the house.
We then move the six puppies, Shaina, Tibor, Tarik, Tessa, Tasha, and Tina, from the double-gate area to the Pat-area. Dotty, Maggie, and Dina join them. Nuri remains in the Pat area, so we now have four adult dogs and six puppies there. Only Khiaow, Chip, Billy, Jake, and Satya are left in the double-gate area, making it easier accessible.
In the Pat-area, the dogs have a large corner Sala available to them. As soon as Chang Wai has time, we will set up another Sala. The puppies seem to adjust easily to the relocation, likely because Dotty is with them. Nuri and Dina get along well with the puppies, while Maggie still needs to get used to them. Overall, the reassignment seems to be working.
Jutta starts cleaning and refreshing the water, and I prepare the rice-based food for the puppies. Feeding in the Pat area goes smoothly, as there is enough food for the adult dogs as well. Feeding the Dahn puppies proves more challenging, as I have to keep Victor, Maggie Song, and Cookie away from the food bowls. Although they have dry food available, they naturally prefer the rice-based food. I plan to get a second rice cooker tomorrow so they can also be fed rice.
The afternoon is rainy, so I can only feed the dogs in the Pat area and those in the large Sala area a second time. The other dogs will have to wait for Pat's morning feeding.
Sunday, 9 April 2023
Jutta is once again lending a hand today in collecting dog waste, refreshing the water in some areas, and for the first time, helping with feeding. Meanwhile, I'm preparing rice-based food for the puppies, feeding both the puppies and the big dogs in the house, and the dogs in the large Sala area.
In the early afternoon, Ann stops by our place with her kids and mom. Ann has been supporting Hiro for years, and her last visit to see the dogs was five years ago. The dogs in the yard are usually quite lively, but most of them enjoy welcoming guests. I also take Ann and her daughter Katlyn to the two areas designated for puppies, which are a bit more relaxed. A collection of photos taken by Ann and Katlyn can be checked out in the photo gallery.
Monday, 10 April 2023
Pat is working until the early afternoon today. I am at the shelter in the later the day, distributing medication and cleaning. Maggie is back in the house. Pat told me she was attacked by the puppies. The attacks didn't have any consequences, but it's better for Maggie to stay in the house for the few days she still needs her ears treated.
Dahn has returned to the area of the large Sala to be reunited with her puppies. I hope she and the big dogs there will get along. Dina and Zola are doing better after being given Prednisilone. Zola will stay in the treatment room for now.
Tuesday, 11 April 2023
This morning, Claudia is helping me out again. While she collects the waste, cleans the house, and tidies up the TVT station, I prepare rice meals for the puppies. Claudia has also brought rice food, which I feed to the puppies. As I'm providing the other dogs with dry food, it starts to rain heavily, forcing us to pause our work for a while.
In the afternoon, I first feed the puppies, Kylie, Zola, Satya, and Jake the rice food I prepared. Then, I tend to the dogs that didn't receive dry food before the rain started. The Prednisolone treatment for Zola and Dina is showing success. However, Zola will spend another night in the treatment room.
Wednesday, 12 April 2023
In the morning, Pat takes care of the dogs. I spend the afternoon at the shelter, cleaning all the areas, distributing medications, and refreshing the drinking water in some places. Then I feed the dogs in Pat's section and the large sala area with dry food for the night. Maggie seems to feel more comfortable in the house area than living together with Elly, Girly, and Shorty.
Thursday, 13 April 2023
This morning, Claudia is helping me out. She brought some rice-based food again, which I mix with the cooked vegetables that Pat had left in the refrigerator. While Claudia cleans the areas, I feed the puppies in Pat's section and Dahn's puppies in the large Sala area with the rice and vegetable mixture. There is also enough left over for the big dogs in both sections.
Zola and Dina continue to receive Prednisilone treatment. They are doing better, but their bite wounds haven't completely healed yet. Maggie seems to be settling into the house area. I continue to treat her ear infection. There is so much leftover rice-based food that I can feed the puppies with it a second time in the afternoon. Afterward, I clean all the areas once more.
Friday, 14 April 2023
Today, Pat is taking care of all the shelter work while I am in Baan Amphur. At the rice shop near the temple gate, I buy 30 kg of rice and also drop off a 20 kg bag of dry food there. This way, Ba Bät can continue to provide the temple dogs with rice and dry food for the next two weeks.
The front hall is now quite empty since Payu, Dotty, Satya, and Jake are no longer there. Only Talo, Tara, Neung, Jingo, and Deva remain. Near the boats, I find Taco, Luna, and the four puppies that need to be sterilized soon. On our beach walk, I meet Kofi and Toto. Saddhu is nowhere to be seen, but Rika, Taro, Yoki, and Akira are present.
Since I haven't seen Payu for weeks, I go searching for him again. I look in all the temple corners, but I cannot find Payu among the dozens of dogs that live in the temple. On my way to the beach, I meet Åsa and David. Åsa, who has been taking care of the beach dogs for years, informed me that his acquaintance David plans to support me.
On my way back to the shelter, I get 200 kg of dry food. After storing the bags, I distribute medications, clean, and check all areas for any issues. Pat has taken good care of all the dogs.
Saturday, 15 April 2023
Jutta is working again today, cleaning and refreshing the water in some areas, and feeding the dogs in the back sections. I'm preparing the rice-based food, distributing the medications, and then going to see Dr. Oi with Kylie and Zola. Kylie's fur condition has worsened again, and Zola is still suffering from the aftermath of a fight a few days ago. Dr. Oi recommends that I replace meat with fish in Kylie's diet and administer Prednisolone for two weeks. Zola's wounds are treated, and she is prescribed Doxycycline and Prednisolone.
Back at the shelter, I feed the dogs in the Pat section and the large Sala area with the rice-based food. In the afternoon, I return to the shelter to clean all the areas and distribute dry food in both the Pat section and the large Sala area.
Sunday, 16 April 2023
Jutta and I are going through our routine again today. During feeding time, Dina is once more attacked by Cookie, and Maggie Song joins in the scuffle. These three dogs have been living together for years before I had to take them in. Still, it seems that lasting harmony among them is impossible. Cookie is always the instigator of conflicts. Dina is much larger than Cookie and Maggie, but she can't stand up to their constant bullying because she's just too sweet. I hope she'll be able to get along with Dotty, Nuri, and the puppies.
Monday, 17 April 2023
Today, Pat is taking over, cleaning, and feeding. In the afternoon, I am at the shelter, distributing medication and cleaning again. Pat informed me that Dina is trying to settle in, and I'm getting the same impression. Zola's condition is steadily improving, but she's still in the treatment room where she feels quite comfortable. Jake is also managing well in the double-gate area. All the dogs are well taken care of and in good spirits.
Tuesday, 18 April 2023
Every morning, my first glance is always at the dogs, especially those who have been relocated, and particularly the puppies. Jake seems to be adapting well to the double-gate area. Billy, Chip, and Khiaow are accepting his presence. Satya, as always, is in the back unit of the TVT station, appearing content. Jake often joins her – the two know each other from the temple's front hall.
Dina seems to prefer going back into the large Sala area, but I'm not letting her return just yet. She's getting along quite well with Dotty and the puppies. Nuri, as always, prefers to lie alone. The five puppies are full of energy and keep the adult dogs entertained with their playfulness. Maggie also seems to have little trouble in the house area. I'm not entirely convinced about the relocation yet, but so far, Maggie seems to prefer the house area to living with Elly, Girly, and Shorty.
The metal sheet fence separating the Dodger area from the Kenji area has rusted through at the bottom for two meters and is beyond my repair. Dodger, Darla, Max, Alex, and Roshi have dug their way under the fence, gaining access to the Kenji area. However, they mostly stay in their area, leaving Kenji undisturbed. After Songkran, when Chang Wai has time, extensive repairs will be needed.
While Jutta takes care of her routine tasks, I prepare the rice food for the puppies and feed them after distributing the medications. Zola, who is still in the treatment room, continues to receive Doxy and Prednisilone, as a bite wound on her right flank has not yet healed. However, she can walk on all fours without any issues.
After feeding the puppies, all the other dogs are taken care of. Jutta feeds in the back areas, and I feed in the front areas. Since all the dogs are full and content, sleeping through the hot afternoon hours, we can finish our work a bit earlier today.
Wednesday, 19 April 2023
This morning, Pat is once again taking responsibility for the welfare of the shelter dogs. When I arrive at the shelter in the afternoon, the dogs have been fed and the front areas have been cleaned. Starting today, Kylie and Roshi will be put on a special diet consisting of rice, vegetables, and freshwater fish. I distribute medications, clean all areas once more, and dispose of feces as well as a number of dead palm fronds.
Dina seems to be getting along in Pat's area, although Pat thinks there is some friction between her and Dotty. However, Dina's presence is an enrichment for the puppies. Jake continues to manage well in the double-gate area, and Maggie also seems to be comfortable in the house area.
Thursday, 20 April 2023
Jutta bought an additional rice cooker, so now I can prepare rice food not only for all the puppies but also for Dotty, Dina, and Nuri, who are currently lying with the five black puppies, and they all get their share. Kylie and Roshi receive rice food mixed with fish.
After I've distributed all the rice, I hear some uneasy noises coming from Pat's area. I go to check and find out that Dina has been attacked. As soon as I let her out, Cookie pounces on her, so I take Dina to the treatment room with Zola. Dina has a few minor bite wounds, which I treat.
At the moment, I don't know what to do with Dina. I've tried various things with her over the past few days, but none of the relocations were successful. Dina is the sweetest dog you could ever imagine, so I don't understand why she is constantly being targeted. In the large Sala area, she only has a problem with Cookie. She gets along well with Victor, Jake, and the puppies, and she's fine with Maggie. That's why I'm considering moving Cookie to the double-gate area, where I can lock her up in one of the TVT units in case she gets into a fight with Khiaow or Billy. None of the other areas are suitable for her relocation at the moment. And I'll try to keep Dina in the house for a few days until her wounds have been healed.
Friday, 21 April 2023
Today, I am working once again on my own at the shelter, and I start by cleaning all the areas. At noon, I pick up ten bags of dry dog food at Khun Apisit's shop and store them in the treatment room. I cook rice and prepare rice food for the puppies; Kylie and Roshi are getting rice and fish. I then feed the puppies first, followed by all the other dogs.
This afternoon, I let Norbu, Arkan, and Kito into the Pat area so the puppies can get to know one another. The brief introduction goes quite well. The black puppies have grown so much that they are not intimidated by the larger puppies. Shaina is even bigger than them. If the opportunity arises, I will soon let Talib and Jomo join them. The five larger puppies are all very sweet, so I hope that the eleven puppies will soon become friends.
Dina remains in the treatment room and gets along quite well with Zola. Her bite wounds are healing nicely. Without Dina, peace has returned to the big Sala area. A permanent solution to the problem is still pending. I have temporarily moved Maggie from the house area to the TVT area because Pinky is starting to bother her. With Jutta's help, I will move Maggie back to her old area, where she had previously gotten along well with Elly, Shorty, and Girly. Her ear infection seems to be a thing of the past.
Saturday, 22 April 2023
Jutta and I carry out our routine tasks. Jutta cleans the area before and refreshes the water where needed. I prepare the rice food and distribute the medications. For now, Dina and Zola remain in the treatment room while Maggie stays in the double-gate area.
To ensure the larger puppies also receive the rice food, we let them into the Pat section, with Jomo and Talibe joining today. I've prepared a large bucket of food that is enough for everyone. Kylie and Roshi receive rice mixed with grilled fish, while all the other dogs get dry food.
After feeding all the dogs, I go through each area again, cleaning up and disposing of dog waste and some dry palm fronds while Jutta cleans the house. With all the dogs well taken care of, we can finish up a bit earlier today.
Sunday, 23 April 2023
Jutta and I are tackling our routine at the shelter again today. Working under the scorching sun is tough, but the dogs need to be taken care of and the shelter must be kept clean. The dogs can at least hide inside the house and under the Salas, but even they suffer from the heat, which reaches 40 degrees inside the house and up to 45 degrees outside in the sun.
I'm leaving Dina and Zola in the treatment room and Maggie with the dogs in the double gate area. Tomorrow, hopefully with Pat's help, I'll find a solution for Dina and Zola. As for Maggie, I'll have to take her to see Dr. Oi again. She's still shaking her head occasionally as if she feels some inflammation in her ears.
After feeding the dogs, they nap through the heat at noon, and we finish our work in the early afternoon. Back at the resort, I'm sitting in front of my computer with the temperature hovering at 38 degrees.
Monday, 24 April 2023
Today, Pat is back at the shelter. While she feeds the dogs, I take Maggie to see Dr. Oi. However, an inspection of her inner ear is not possible because Maggie fiercely resists. Dr. Oi gives me ear drops and recommends administering Prednisolone for a week. Originally, I planned to return Maggie to her area with Elly, Girly, and Shorty, but I can't administer the drops there. For now, she stays in the house area. We bring Dina and Zola back to their respective areas. The reintegration seems to be working, but whether it will be successful in the long run remains to be seen.
Tuesday, 25 April 2023
Today, Claudia is helping me again at the shelter. While she cleans the areas and refills water, I prepare the rice food for the puppies. Together, we feed all the eleven puppies. Dahn has obviously been attacked by Dotty and has sustained some minor bite wounds. I bring her back to the large Sala area, where she seems to feel more comfortable.
These days, we have to manage some relocations, as some dogs are evidently reacting aggressively to the heat. Claudia informs me that Ruby had a conflict with Zola. The two dogs have lived in harmony for years, and Ruby is generally of a peaceful nature. I'll talk to Chang Wai about dividing the area of the three Salas, so that more alternative spaces are available.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter. As light rain falls, I feed the puppies rice food again. Kylie and Roshi receive rice with fish for the second time. Dahn is adjusting well to the large Sala area, while Cookie can't again refrain from dominating Dina. I might have to consider moving Cookie to the double-gate area for a while.
Wednesday, 26 April 2023
This morning, Pat is back at work. I'm suffering from a headache and won't be able to work again until early afternoon. In order to allow Chang Wai to repair the fences and section off a new area, I pick up twenty metal sheets from Thai Watsadu and store them in the double gate area. Pat has taken good care of the dogs, so all I have to do is complete a cleaning round. Maggie receives her ear drops. When I open the door to the Pat-area, I can barely keep the five large puppies from rushing in. However, after a brief encounter with the black puppies, they must return to the area of the large Sala, where Dahn seems to have settled back in.
Thursday, 27 April 2023
Claudia is helping me again today with the cleanup. She brings two large bowls of rice food, and I also cook some rice that I mix with a vegetable-meat blend. This allows us to distribute two 15-liter buckets of rice food. It's still far from enough to feed even a portion of the dogs, but at least all the puppies get their share, and today, the dogs in the double gate area do as well.
Cookie, whom I took in along with Maggie Song, Dina, and Jack from the Lebanese overstayer, is in heat, and Talib has taken advantage of that. It takes us some time to separate them from their misery. It's apparent that Cookie, and likely Maggie Song and Dina too, did not undergo an ovariohysterectomy but rather a tubal ligation, which means their hormone production is still intact. I confine Cookie to an indoor kennel overnight and will take her to Dr. Sudarat tomorrow to have her properly sterilized.
It's not out of the question that Dina and Maggie Song may need to undergo the same procedure. However, to spare them a potentially unnecessary operation, I want to wait to sterilize them until their heat cycle shows consequences. Over the next two weeks, Talib, Kito, Norbu, Arkan, and Jomo will be neutered, so we might be able to avoid the procedures for Maggie Song and Dina.
For now, I've moved Dina to the double gate area. Maggie is also safer there than in the house area, and I can treat her better there. After solving the relocation issues, we feed the remaining dogs. Kylie and Roshi get the rice-fish-vegetable mix again, while the other dogs receive dry food.
Friday, 28 April 2023
Today, Pat takes over responsibility again, while I briefly stop by in the morning to check on the dogs and pick up Cookie. After dropping Cookie off with Dr. Sudarat, I meet with Rickard, who created my new sponsor website. I'm not yet fully familiar with uploading content, and some pictures need to be replaced. Dr. Sudarat informs me that Cookie hasn't been spayed. Even her fallopian tubes haven't been tied. Therefore, I now assume that Maggie Song and Dina haven't been spayed either. However, I'll only bring them to the clinic when they're in heat.
Since Cookie is still quite weak, I bring her to my house first. In the late afternoon, I head to the shelter. Pat has taken care of all the dogs. Apparently, Tashi was stung in the tail by an insect. I administer prednisolone to him. After cleaning all areas, I leave the dogs on their own. Cookie behaved exemplarily at my place. She's still a bit unsteady on her feet, but she'll undoubtedly recover from the procedure within the next two days.
Saturday, 29 April 2023
Cookie spent the night with me without any issues and is now much more steady on her legs. I take her to the shelter and leave her in the treatment room, where she feels safe and comfortable. Jutta and I go through our daily routine. I distribute the morning medications and prepare the rice food for the puppies. Kylie and Roshi get their fish with rice, and once the rice food for the puppies has cooled down, they get their share as well.
Jutta finishes up the cleaning tasks and starts feeding the dogs in the back areas. I continue the feeding in the front sections. Afterward, Jutta cleans the house while I take care of the outdoor areas. Some palm fronds have fallen again, and of course, I have to dispose of several buckets of waste, as I do every day.
I decide to take Dotty back to the temple. On one hand, the Pat-area is getting a bit crowded, as the black puppies are growing and need more space. On the other hand, I hope that Payu will return if Dotty is back to the front hall. Dotty behaves very well during the ride and seems happy to be back at the temple.
During our walk on the beach, we encounter all the dogs except Payu. Deva has also reappeared but flees when she sees Jutta. On Monday, I'll check on the temple dogs again. Rice and dry food for Ba Bät need to be provided once more.
Sunday, 30 April 2023
Chang Wai arrives promptly at the shelter at 8 AM this morning, and shortly after, the materials he ordered the day before are delivered. Unfortunately, it rains all day, causing frequent interruptions in the fence work and the construction of the Sala.
After I've cleaned the areas, I pick up Jutta at 10 AM. I then prepare food for the puppies while Jutta feeds the large dogs. The small puppies are now getting along quite well with the bigger puppies. This is important because I plan to integrate them soon by leaving the gate open between the Pat area and the large Sala area.
Dina feels uncomfortable in the double gate area. She's safe there, but she's drawn back to the large Sala area. So, I bring her back there, and she enthusiastically thanks me. Cookie will remain in the treatment room for now. I'll only be able to bring her back once her hormone production has stopped, which may take another week.
Since it drizzles into the afternoon, Chang Wai and his assistant end their work early. They will resume tomorrow morning. Jutta and I also finish up a bit earlier today. All the dogs are well taken care of and sleep through the rain.
Monday, 1 May 2023
This morning, the sun is shining again, and Chang Wai and his assistant are already waiting for me at the entrance of the shelter by half past seven. While they resume their interrupted tasks, I take care of cleaning the areas. Pat arrives around half past nine. After I've briefed her, we open the door to the Pat area to see if the black puppies will enter the large Sala area. As expected, the attempt is mostly successful since the dogs already know each other. Pat stays at the shelter while I head home for lunch to complete the extensive computer work that always comes up at the beginning of the month.
In the afternoon, I return to the shelter. Pat has already left, leaving the black puppies and Shaina in the large Sala area. The puppies enjoy exploring the entire space. Victor, Jack, Dina, and Maggie Song accept the puppies, and the larger puppies already know them well and play with them. When I lock them up again so Chang Wai can move freely through the large Sala area with all his tools after finishing the fence and Sala, they protest so vigorously that I open the door again once the workers have left.
Tuesday, 2 May 2023
When I arrive at the shelter this morning, I'm surprised to find Maggie outside the gate. I try to catch her, but she manages to escape. Suspecting that she found a hole in the fence, I inspect the double gate area but can't find any damage. Upon entering the shelter, my first glance is at the dogs in the large Sala area. I'm relieved to see that Shaina and the black puppies are doing well.
As Claudia and I go through our morning routine, I search for Maggie several times but can't find her. Claudia has brought two large pots of rice-based food and special food for Kylie and Roshi. First, we distribute the rice food among the black puppies, Shaina, and Nuri, and then it's the bigger puppies' turn. There's so much rice food available that Victor, Dina, Maggie Song, and Jack also get some.
Toya and Zola seem to have settled well in the newly created area. Toya, in particular, is relaxed, while Zola is still a bit nervous. But now she's safe, and peace returns to the adjacent area.

During one of my afternoon searches for Maggie, I see her fading into a tapioca field about a hundred meters away. I manage to catch her and bring her back to the double gate area. But as soon as I turn my back, I see her climbing over the six-foot fence. Now I know how she managed to escape.
After a few more minutes, I catch her again, and we decide to place her back in her old area. She shows no signs of wanting to escape again until late afternoon. Once we've cleaned all the areas, fed the remaining dogs, and replenished water in some sections, the sky opens up, and it starts pouring. Claudia leaves, and I go to Khun Apisit to pick up 200 kg of dry dog food, which I temporarily store at my home.
Wednesday, 3 May 2023
Today, Pat is taking responsibility for the shelter dogs again. She is concerned that Nuri might be attacked after the merging of Pat's area with the larger Sala area, as Nuri is often alone. As a result, we move Nuri to the newly created area with Toya and Zola.
I take Dina on board and go with her to see Dr. Sudarat. Afterward, I visit the temple. All the dogs are accounted for, except for Payu. I had hoped that Dotty's return might lure Payu back, but that wasn't the case. As expected, Dotty has settled in well again.
The people who have been taking care of the dogs near the boats for months tell me that they must move on since they can no longer find work. In the past two weeks, three new dogs have joined them. They inform me that none of these dogs have been sterilized. Besides these three new dogs, there are also three puppies, about five months old, living near the boats. I have a good relationship with them, so I should be able to bring them to the clinic without any issues. Of course, not with the three new dogs.
After buying rice for Ba Bät and leaving a bag of dry food at the rice store, I pick up Dina and initially take her to my apartment, as she hasn't fully woken up yet. Dr. Sudarat informs me that she was also unsterilized.
I head back to the temple, and with the help of one of the beach people, I manage to get the three new dogs into the cage. I tell Dr. Sudarat to sterilize the dogs tomorrow and that they need to stay at the clinic for three days.
Back at the apartment, Dina is back on her feet, so I take her to the shelter. There, I place her with Cookie in the treatment room. While cleaning the areas, I notice that Nuri seems to be getting along with Toya and Zola. Nuri is in the Sala, while Zola and Toya are outside. The black puppies are clearly enjoying their young lives, while Shaina has become a bit more reserved. Overall, however, the merging seems to be working out.
Thursday, 4 May 2023
This morning, Claudia brings two large bowls of rice food and specialty feed for Kylie and Roshi. Together, we tackle our daily chores, cleaning the house and all the areas, feeding the puppies with rice food and the other dogs with dry kibble.
Dina spent the night with Cookie without any issues. The puppies and the adult dogs have gotten along well in the large living room area. They also have access to the Pat area. Nuri seems to have settled in the newly created space with Zola and Toya as well. Now that she's safe, Zola is coming back to life. In the late afternoon, I make a brief visit to the shelter. The puppies are clearly still full and already asleep. So, I save the remaining rice-based food for tomorrow.
Friday, 5 May 2023
This morning, Pat is taking over again, joined by Robin and Cecile. Around noon, I receive an emergency call from Gop. One of their dogs has apparently suffered a heatstroke and needs to be taken to the clinic immediately. By the time we arrive at Dr. Oi's clinic about half an hour later, the dog has already passed away. Gop has acquired rabies vaccines for their remaining dogs. I provide them with syringes and needles. Gop assures me they can administer the vaccines themselves.
I then head to the shelter. Robin and Cecile have already left. Pat is taking care of feeding the dogs. I clean the areas and refill water as needed. Dina and Cookie seem to be getting along well in the treatment room. Zola, Toya, and Nuri also appear content. The puppies in the large Sala area are happily enjoying their lives. Victor, Maggie Song, and Jack have accepted their presence. By late afternoon, all the dogs are well taken care of, so Pat and I can leave them for the day.
Saturday, 6 May 2023
Today, Jutta is helping me out at work again. While she cleans the back areas, I prepare the rice meal for the puppies. Kylie and Roshi get their usual rice-fish mixture, and the larger dogs receive dry food. Cookie and Dina are getting along in the treatment room. I've already removed Cookie's patch, and the surgical wound is healing normally. Dina still has to wear a collar since she keeps licking her patch. However, this inconvenience will soon be over for her too. Dina continues to receive Doxycycline, while I've stopped giving it to Cookie. The black puppies and Shaina are first in line for the rice feeding. After that, I let the larger puppies into the Pat-area, and finally, I open the gate so Victor, Maggie Song, and Jack can also enjoy some of the coveted rice meal.
Once all the dogs have been taken care of and the living area is cleaned, Jutta and I head to Chaiyapruek Clinic to pick up the three beach dogs. They seem to have recovered well from their procedures and seamlessly rejoin the other beach dogs. I'll be going to the temple more often now to keep the situation there under control. Ba Bät has assured me that she will now take care of feeding all the dogs that stay on the beach.
Sunday, 7 May 2023
Claudia and Jutta are taking on the main tasks at the shelter today. They clean the house and all other areas, refill the water troughs and bowls with fresh water, and feed the dogs in the back sections. I am responsible for feeding the puppies and the dogs in the house area. In the meantime, I also arrange for extra gate keys for Claudia and Jutta, in case they arrive at the shelter before me or if I am ever unable to make it.
In the late afternoon, I return to the shelter, clean the areas again, dispose of the waste, and feed Kylie and Roshi a second time with a rice and fish mixture. All the dogs are well taken care of, and most of them are already asleep as darkness sets in.
Monday, 8 May 2023
Today, Pat is taking on the main tasks at the shelter. She is cleaning the house area and feeding all the dogs. I arrive in the late afternoon to clean the remaining areas. All the dogs are well cared for and good-tempered. Cookie and Dina will stay in the treatment room for one more night.
Tuesday, 9 May 2023
When I arrive at the shelter in the morning, Claudia is already working. It seems that Kyra isn't feeling well. I take her to Dr. Oi, where her blood is drawn for a test. Back at the shelter, Claudia and I each complete our tasks, finishing just as the heavy rain begins. After picking up five more bags of dry food, I return to the shelter in the late afternoon. I feed the puppies rice-based food and distribute dry food to the dogs that missed out earlier in the day.
During the subsequent cleaning of the rear areas, I hear unsettling noises and discover that Toya and Zola have broken through the metal sheet gate into the area of the large Sala. I bring them back to their designated area and temporarily patch the hole they created. It seems that Zola was the mastermind behind the breakout. She's currently very unsettled and doesn't seem to be happy anywhere. To give her more space to roam, I leave the gate to the area of the three Salas open. I'll find out if that was a good idea tomorrow.
Wednesday, 10 May 2023
My first glance this morning is at the dogs in the large Sala area and the newly created section. The makeshift seal didn't hold, and some dogs have switched back and forth. In the process, Jack apparently injured his eye. Torn metal sheets are razor-sharp. I attempt to fix the damage on both sides of the gate. However, this temporary solution must be replaced by a complete repair from Chang Wai. Pat arrives and takes over.
I take Maggie Song on board and drop her off at Dr. Sudarat's for sterilization. Maggie Song is the last of the three female dogs that were obviously not sterilized when I took them in. At the temple, I check on the three female dogs that were sterilized a week ago, but I only find two of them. On the beach, however, there are several boats, so I might have overlooked the third one. All the other beach and front hall dogs are accounted for. Unfortunately, my hope that Payu would reappear after Dotty returned has not been fulfilled. I assume he found a new spot somewhere in the extensive temple area.
When I arrive at the clinic, I see that Maggie Song has already been sterilized. Until she's fully awake and recovered, she stays with me in my apartment. In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter. My repair efforts have survived the first few hours. Pat has closed the door to the three Sala area again. However, Mona has now joined Zola, Toya, and Nuri. The dogs get along, and Zola seems to have recovered.
All the puppies, along with Victor, Jack, and Dahn, are now in the large Sala. The Pat area with the large corner Sala is deserted. It appears that the black puppies are gradually claiming their spots within the group. For their development, there's nothing better than integrating with the older puppies and adult dogs. Dina and Cookie remain in the treatment room, and it doesn't seem like anything is wrong with them.
Back at the apartment, Maggie behaves exceptionally well. I let her outside, and she clearly doesn't want to run away. I administer Doxycycline to her and let her rest. Tomorrow morning, I'll bring her back to the shelter.
Thrusday, 11 May 2023
Maggie behaved impeccably throughout the night. During the early morning hours is she free to roam in the resort's courtyard. Jutta arrives and we drive together to the shelter, where I place Maggie in the treatment room with Cookie and Dina. The three of them have known each other for years, and the treatment room is a pleasant place for them to recover. Cookie and Dina's wounds have already healed. Maggie is given Doxycycline to ensure her procedure goes smoothly as well.
The makeshift seal on the gate between the large Sala area and the newly created section has held up. Nuri, Mona, Toya, and Zola are getting along well. While Jutta tackles the cleaning and water renewal, I prepare the rice-based food. Roshi and Kylie get rice and fish again, which Jutta brought along. The puppies receive rice mixed with chicken meat and canned food. Jutta feeds the dogs in the back areas, and I take care of the dogs in the house and the front areas.
Jack's eye doesn't look much better, but treating an injury close to the eye is always critical. I hope the injury will heal on its own. Dr. Oi sends me Kyra's test results. No blood parasites were detected, and her kidney and liver values are fine. However, Kyra is suffering from anemia. The Doxy/Ferric treatment I started two days ago must be continued for at least four weeks.
Friday, 12 May 2023
Today, Pat once again took responsibility for the dogs' well-being. She cleaned the front areas and fed all the dogs. I took over in the afternoon, distributed medications, and started cleaning the back areas. Pat informed me that she noticed bite wounds on Zola and Toya. These wounds probably came from their breakout into the area of the large Sala, as they get along well with Mona and Nuri. I will introduce the two dogs to Dr. Oi tomorrow.
After Pat has left, I cleaned the front areas too and disposed of the feces. It's crucial that Chang Wai repairs the fences over the weekend; otherwise, it's foreseeable that I'll have to deal with more dog fights.
Saturday, 13 May 2023
In the morning, on the way to the shelter, Jutta and I buy chicken meat and pick up Prednisilone. At the shelter, I prepare the rice feed and Jutta begins cleaning. I then head to Dr. Oi's with Zola and Toya. Both dogs stay at the clinic as they need daily care for several days. Back at the shelter, we move Dina, Cookie, and Maggie Song to the Pat section and lock the door to the big Sala area. Afterwards, Jutta and I feed all the dogs. Roshi and Kylie continue to receive their special diet.
After picking up dry food, I return to the shelter in the late afternoon. I store the bags and then proceed to clean all the areas. Finally, I feed the puppies a second time.
Sunday, 14 May 2023
Jutta and I are back at it today, tackling our usual workload. Together, we share the cleaning tasks and the feeding duties. The puppies are getting their coveted rice meal again. Since Dina is still being dominated by Cookie, I've moved her back to the large Sala area, where she feels more at ease with Victor, Dahn, and the puppies. The older and the black puppies get along fairly well. Squabbles break out now and then, but that's normal among puppies.
In the afternoon, I pick up 15 metal sheets from Thai Watsadu. Chang Wai will be at the shelter early tomorrow morning to replace several sheets that have rusted through on the ground.
Afterwards, I stop by the clinic to pick up Zoa. Her bite wounds aren't serious. Zola will initially be in the treatment room, which is relatively cool and clean. She'll stay there until her wounds have healed. Then I continue cleaning all the areas. Jutta has already refilled the water where it's needed.
Monday, 15 May 2023
Early in the morning, Chang Wai arrives with his helper. Until the afternoon, they replace the deteriorating metal sheets and repair what can still be mended. To top it off, they also install a fan in the dogs' resting area.
While I clean the areas and keep the dogs away from the workers, Pat feeds them. After the work is done for the time being and Pat has left, I head to Dr. Oi's to check on Toya. She needs to stay in the clinic for another day, but her healing process is progressing satisfactorily. Zola remains in the treatment room. She, too, is doing significantly better.
Late in the evening, I'm at Pong Leisure Park to see the dogs and meet Michael, who feeds the dogs there daily. All of them are in top-notch condition. Recently, two new dogs have joined. Igor joined the group a few weeks ago in the evenings. He has an owner who, however, lets him roam freely. Kolja has been around for a few days now. While it took some time for Igor to trust me, Kolja is already quite friendly and allows me to pet him extensively. Bo had a tick infestation, so I asked Michael to get Bravecto. We administered that to Bo today. So, that problem is solved for now.
Tuesday, 16 May 2023
Today, I'm working alone at the shelter, distributing the morning medications, cleaning the house and all areas, and then feeding. In the early afternoon, I'm at the temple, buying rice and leaving a bag of dry food for Ba Bät at the rice shop.
All the dogs at the temple and on the beach are accounted for. Even the third sterilized puppy has returned. Some people have settled down near the boats again, apparently a couple with a child. I give them money so they can take care of the beach dogs. They seem to be reliable. Ba Bät is feeding the dogs at the front hall. During our beach walk, we run into Kofi and Toto. Both are in good condition and are enjoying their free lives.
On the way back to the shelter, I pick up Toya from the clinic. She joins Zola and Kylie in the treatment room. I distribute the evening medications and then do another round of cleaning.
Wednesday, 17 May 2023
Today, Pat is taking over the feeding of the dogs again. I'm handling the distribution of the morning medications, cleaning the areas, washing all bowls and tubs, and refreshing the water. Zola, Toya, and Kylie are getting along in the treatment room. The healing progress of the bite wounds is satisfactory. Kylie's condition is stable. Cookie and Maggie Song have settled in Pat's area and seem to be content.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter to distribute the evening medications. This is followed by a cleaning round in the house area and in the large Sala area. Victor, Dahn, and Dina are living peacefully with the puppies. All the puppies are developing well.
Thursday, 18 May 2023
Today, Jutta is coming back to help me clean the areas. Meanwhile, I'll distribute the morning medications and prepare the rice food for the puppies. Jutta feeds the dogs in the rear areas, and after I've taken care of the puppies, I feed the dogs inside the house. We just need to refill the water.
By late afternoon, I'm back in the shelter, carrying out another round of cleaning and distributing the evening medications. All the dogs are well-cared for and peaceful. Zola, Toya, and Kylie get along well in the treatment room.
Friday, 19 May 2023
Today, Pat is taking responsibility for the shelter dogs. I'm just dispensing the morning medication before taking Jomo and Talib on board. They're the first two out of the six large puppies that it's time to get neutered.
After dropping off the two dogs with Dr. Sudarat, I head to Wat Yang Yai. I want to find out if there are more dogs that need to be neutered there. However, I can't find any of the monks on the entire property.
In the early afternoon, I pick up Jomo and Talib from the clinic. The neutering of the two puppies apparently went without a hitch. Since both dogs haven't completely woken up, I take them back to my apartment. There, I notice a chest wound on Talib that I hadn't observed before. As Pat has been taking care of the dogs, I decide to keep Jomo and Talib with me overnight and skip my afternoon visit to the shelter.
Saturday, 20 May 2023
Talib and Jomo behaved impeccably throughout the night. In the morning, I open the door so they can run out into the yard. However, they both choose to stay near my apartment. Jutta arrives and together we head to the shelter. Jomo goes into the treatment room, and after I've distributed the morning medication, I bring Toya along and drive with her and Talib to the clinic. Toya receives new treatment and comes back with me, but Talib remains under the care of Dr. Oi, as his wound needs to be tended to daily for the time being. Back at the shelter, I prepare the rice-based dog food while Jutta cleans, refills the water, and starts feeding.
In the afternoon, I return to the shelter, feed the dogs the rice meal, and tend to the dogs in the house area. Jomo has gotten along well with Zola and Kylie, while Toya is now settled with Satya in the rear unit of the TVT station.
Sunday, 21 May 2023
Toya and Satya have been getting along well. I let Toya out, but she quickly returns to the back unit. She's still wearing her collar, but the bandage has slipped a bit. A wound is visible, but it's dry. Satya always stays in the back unit, even when the gate is left open.
While Jutta starts cleaning, I'm with Kylie at Dr. Oi's. Kylie's right eye is inflamed and eye drops don't seem to be helping. Dr. Oi prescribes her Doxycycline and Prednisolone. Talib's wound has remained infection-free. Since he's constantly whining, Dr. Oi asks me to take him back for the next two days. Kylie and Talib return to the treatment room, which they now share with Jomo and Zola.
While Jutta continues cleaning and then feeds the dogs in the back sections, I prepare the rice food. In the afternoon, I drop Jutta back in town and buy 80 kg of dry food, which I store in the treatment room. I open the door to the resting area and keep the door to the house area closed. This gives the four dogs more room to move. Then, I feed the rice food to the puppies and afterwards feed the dogs in the house area.
Another busy day at the shelter has come to an end. The reward is seeing all the dogs well-fed and content.
Monday, 22 May 2023
Pat is already at work when I arrive at the shelter. The dogs in the treatment room and the adjacent rest area have behaved well. Rocco and Taya have joined them. There is enough space for everyone. I distribute the morning medications to Zola, Jomo, Talib, Toya, and Kyra.
Pat points out a swelling on Billy's throat. I take Billy to the clinic where he receives treatment. The blood test result will be available tomorrow. Pat is also worried that the five black puppies in the large Sala area might get into trouble. She suggests placing some of them with Nuri and Mona. Arkan manages to squeeze through the gate, and I let him stay overnight in the newly created area as well.
Pat feeds all the dogs while I clean the areas and dispose of the waste in the large pit behind the shelter, as I do every day. Jake's fur condition has improved. The better food is clearly having an effect. Jack's eye injury also appears to be healing now. I was worried about this injury because it's so difficult to treat.
Tuesday, 23 May 2023
Today, Jutta is working at the shelter again. While she cleans the house and the areas, I distribute the morning medications and prepare rice food for the puppies. After that, I drive to the clinic with Billy and Talib. The healing process of the wounds on both dogs is progressing. Billy is going back to the double gate area, and Talib can return to the large Sala area. Jutta feeds the dogs in the rear areas, while I feed the dogs in the house and the double gate area.
In the late afternoon, I feed the rice food to the puppies and then distribute the evening medications. Tarik, Tibor, and Kito decide to stay in the area with Nuri and Mona. Tessa, Tasha, and Tina prefer to share the large Sala area with Dina, Victor, Dahn, Norbu, Talib, Jomo, and Arkan.
Wednesday, 24 May 2023
Jutta is helping out today since Pat took the day off. We're going through our routine of medication distribution, cleaning, water replenishment, and preparing the rice food.
Last night, a thunderstorm swept over the shelter, leaving its marks. The metal sheet door to the Pat area has been torn open, presumably by Cookie and/or Maggie Song, and needs to be completely replaced. From what I could determine, none of the dogs have been injured by the sharp edges.
While Jutta feeds the dogs in the rear areas, I'm with Talib and Toya at Dr. Oi's. Toya's wounds are almost fully healed, so further treatment is no longer necessary. Talib has gotten rid of his plaster and is now being properly dressed. The deep wound has closed up a bit and is free of infection. Toya goes back to the TVT area for now, where she's doing quite well. Talib returns to the treatment room, which he shares with Zola and Kylie.
In the afternoon, I distribute the rice food to the dogs in the large Sala area, where the puppies, Cookie, Maggie Song, Victor, Dina, Dahn, and Jack are now located. The dogs also have access to the Pat area, so there's plenty of space for all of them to roam freely. Lastly, I feed the dogs in the house area as well as in the double-gate area and then clean all the areas.
Thursday, 25 May 2023
Today, Jutta is helping me again, so we're going through our morning routine. I move Zola from the treatment room to the double-gate area with the adjacent TVT station. Toya has settled in well there, and Zola is also adjusting quickly. Billy, Khiaow, Jake, Tinka, Chip, and Satya don't mind the newcomers.
After I prepare the rice food and Jutta cleans the back areas, we weigh the dogs in the house area and the double-gate area. I need to update my database with this information.
In the afternoon, I feed the dogs in the large Sala area with the prepared rice food. Kylie and Roshi also get some of it. Then I feed the dogs in the house area and the double-gate area. Afterward, I clean these two areas.
Friday, 26 May 2023
Today, Pat takes over responsibility at the shelter again. In the meantime, I drive to Wat Yang Yai to pick up more dogs for sterilization. However, neither the abbot nor any of the monks are present. So I drive to Wat Amparahm, check on the dogs at the front hall, and then on three young dogs that are being cared for by the people at the beach. I take them to the Dr. Sudarat Clinic for sterilization. The dogs will stay at the clinic for three days before I return them to the beach.
I then make a second attempt at Wat Yang Yai and succeed. One of the monks helps me put two dogs in the cage. Two more dogs will be taken care of next week. Since Dr. Sudarat is not available, I leave the dogs at the clinic and will pick them up tomorrow afternoon after they have been sterilized. The three beach dogs have already been sterilized.
In the late afternoon, I am back at the shelter and distribute the medication. Pat has taken good care of all the dogs. Zola and Toya have settled in among the dogs in the double gate area and seem to be accepting the relocation well.
Saturday, 27 May 2023
While Jutta takes care of the cleaning, I distribute the medications and prepare the rice food. Then, I'm with Talib at Dr. Oi's. Talib got into a fight with Norbu in the area of the large sala where I had moved him back, and the bandage got torn. Nothing else happened though. Talib has been rebandaged, and I move him to the double-gate area. However, he's not happy about that, so he goes back to the treatment room with Kylie for now. Surprisingly, Kylie's fur condition seems to be improving slightly. Hopefully, this positive process will continue.
After Jutta has fed the dogs in the rear areas and cleaned the house, we drive together to the Chaiyapruek Clinic, pick up the two sterilized dogs, and bring them back to the care of the monks at Wat Yang Yai.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the rice food to Kylie, Talib, Roshi, and the dogs in the area of the large sala. Then, I feed the dogs in the house area and go through all the areas once again for cleaning.
Sunday, 28 May 2023
Today is another routine day. Jutta and I share the tasks of cleaning and feeding the dogs who receive dry food. I prepare rice food for the dogs in the large Sala area and distribute the medications. Roshi, Kylie, and Talib also receive rice food. Talib can't stand being in the treatment room anymore, so I bring him back to the large Sala area. Kylie was outside for a while too, but she is drawn back to the treatment room where she feels safe.
Monday, 29 May 2023
Pat is taking over responsibility at the shelter this morning. I drive to Chaiyapruek Clinic at noon and pick up the three beach puppies. They are happy to see me, and there are no issues getting them into the cage. As soon as we arrive at the temple beach, they immediately blend in with the other dogs.
Pat is still at work when I arrive at the shelter. She finishes feeding, and I clean the areas after distributing the medications. Talib seems to have settled back in with his siblings. Zola and Toya are still doing well in the double-gate area.
Tuesday, 30 May 2023
Jutta and I are once again sharing the work at the shelter today. On the way there, I buy 20 kilograms of dry puppy food, 15 kilograms of rice, meat, eggs, and sausages for medication distribution. Jutta cleans the areas, refills water where necessary, and feeds the puppies. I distribute the medication and prepare the rice food. Then we feed the dogs in the back areas.
In the afternoon, I first feed the rice food to the puppies and the dogs in the large Sala area. Then I go through all the areas again, cleaning up the feces and several palm fronds. Finally, I provide Roshi and Kylie with rice food and feed the dogs in the house area. I leave the shelter as darkness falls. All the dogs are fed and content. Several of them have already settled down for the night.
Wednesday, 31 May 2023
Pat is taking over the regime at the shelter again today. In the early afternoon, I am at the temple, buying rice for Ba Bät and leaving a bag of dry food at the rice shop for Ba Bät to collect. Some beach squatters have gathered again, and I deliver a bag of dry food to them as well. All three newly sterilized puppies are doing well. Next week, another female dog that recently joined the squatters will be next in line for sterilization. The front hall and beach dogs are also in good spirits. David greets me at the beach and hands me a generous donation. He will continue to support me regularly. In the afternoon, I am at the shelter. Pat has taken good care of all the dogs, so I just need to distribute the medications.
Thursday, 1 June 2023
Today, Jutta and I share the work at the shelter. We have developed a well-functioning routine between us. While Jutta cleans the areas, I distribute the medication and prepare the rice food. Then, I take Billy and Talib on bord to check the healing process of their wounds at Dr. Oi's. Billy's wound has completely healed. Talib is being bandaged again, but his chest wound is also healing very well and will be fully closed in a week. In the afternoon, I buy more dry food and then feed the dogs in the large sala area with the rice food.
Friday, 2 June 2023
I've been struggling with lower back pain for years, but I usually manage to handle it with stretching. However, yesterday at work, I had to endure sharp pains, so I decided to take a day off today for rehabilitation, and I was already feeling much better in the evening.
Nevertheless, I stopped by the shelter briefly because Pat informed me that Mona had gone missing. I wasn't panicking because Mona had already dug under the fence a few days ago, so I asked Pat to keep an eye out for her in the tapioca field next to the shelter. When I arrived at the shelter, Pat had already locked Mona in the back unit of the TVT station with Satya.
I sealed the hole under the fence and brought Mona back to Nuri. Mona is the sweetest dog you can imagine, so returning her was not a problem. While I was at it, I administered medication to Kyra, Kylie, and Billy. Pat had everything under control at the shelter, so I decided to skip my afternoon shift today to take care of my back.
Saturday, 3 June 2023
Today is another routine day with Jutta. Jutta cleans, refills water, and feeds the dogs in the back areas. I distribute the medication and prepare the rice food. In the afternoon, I feed the dogs in the house area and provide the dogs in the large Sala area with rice food.
Afterwards, I'm with Gop at the owner's property, which seems suitable to me for building a new shelter. However, the owner comes up with price expectations that are far beyond my means. Therefore, I will have to continue my search for an affordable property.
Sunday, 4 June 2023
Early in the morning, Chang Wai arrives at the shelter with his helper. I had asked him to make some repairs to the metal sheets. During a thunderstorm, Cookie and Maggie Song seemed to panic and managed to work their way through the closed door. In the area where Nuri, Mona, and now Dina live, the fence was reinforced with cemented Eet-Blocs. Additionally, some minor repairs were carried out.
After the handymen left, I cleaned the areas. Since I have limited time today, I skip the feeding with rice food and provide only dry food for the dogs in the large sala area.
In the early afternoon, I visit the dogs at the temple. All the recently sterilized beach dogs have recovered well from the procedure. The beach people take good care of the dogs that hang around the boats.
In the late afternoon, I return to the shelter to feed the dogs in the house area with dry food and distribute medication. On my way home, I come across the dog with the heavily swollen front leg. I take photos of the dog and send them to Dr. Oi. Tomorrow, I plan to bring the dog to the clinic.
Monday, 5 June 2023
Today, Pat once again did the main work at the shelter. In the afternoon, on my way to work, I stop at the spot where I had seen the dog with the swollen front leg. Unfortunately, the man whom the dog trusts is not present, so I have to postpone the trip to Dr. Oi.
Pat had informed me that she had locked up Zola and Tola with Satya. There seemed to have been a confrontation. I let the two of them out into the double-gated area and notice no hostilities among the dogs.
While going on a round through all the areas, a flood of puppies from the big Sala area squeezes into the adjacent area where Nuri, Mona, and now Dina live. The black puppies love Nuri, and even the big puppies are happy to see something different. However, Talib soon starts to pick a fight with Dina, so I have to end the party.
Dina seems to get along well with Nuri and Mona. She tries to push her way back into the big area, but for her safety, I don't allow it. The dogs in the other areas are full and content. Kylie is squatting in one of the cages in the house area, while Taya has settled in the treatment room, and I let her be. Talib has gotten rid of his bandage. The wound looks good and will be completely healed soon.
Tuesday, 6 June 2023
Jutta is once again helping out energetically today. Together, we go through our routine of cleaning, renewing the water, and preparing the rice food. We move Zola and Toya from the double gate area to the pat area.
In the afternoon, we visit Josie. I ran out of Doxycycline, and Josie has a full dose for me. It's Jutta's first visit to Josie's Temple Shelter. Binglee and Bee are excited to see me, and I also meet Sonya and Haley, two puppies I found motherless and entrusted to Josie for care. Both dogs have developed very well.
In the late afternoon, I first feed the dogs in the large sala area with the rice food, and then the remaining dogs with dry food. Roshi and Kylie also get rice food. After that, I go through all the areas once again to clean up, dispose of the feces, and gather some fallen palm fronds.
Wednesday, 7 June 2023
Pat is at the shelter this morning. I'm distributing the medication and then going with Shaina and Arkan to Dr. Sudarat. Both dogs will be sterilized. After that, it's time for the regular maintenance of the pickup truck.
In the afternoon, I get 120 kg of dry food, pick up the two dogs from the clinic, and temporarily place them in the treatment room. Pat has taken good care of the dogs, so I just need to clean all the areas. Zola and Toya seem to be comfortable in the Pat area, and the dogs in the double gate area now have more space. Tibor has stayed with Nuri, Dina, and Mona and seems to want to stay with them. I am back with the dogs at the Pong parking lot in the early evening. Michael takes good care of them. However, I don't see Kolja. Maybe he has moved on.
Thursday, 8 June 2023
On the way to the shelter, I buy rice, meat, and puppy food. While Jutta cleans and feeds the dogs in the back areas, I distribute the medication and prepare the rice food. Arkan and Shaina have recovered and are drawn outside. Shaina goes to Nuri and Mona, and Arkan returns to the area of the big sala. In the morning, Pat stops by briefly. She introduces me to Trevor, who offers to assist in planning the new shelter project.
In the afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, feeding the rice food and cleaning all the areas once again. Then I meet the people who are housing the dog with the swollen front leg. Together, we manage to place him in the cage, and I take him to Dr. Oi for an initial examination. The dog is frightened and therefore aggressive, so Dr. Oi has to keep him in the cage overnight.
Since tomorrow I plan to move Neung from the temple to the shelter, I hope to be able to retrieve the cage from the clinic tomorrow morning. Afterwards, the pickup truck will need to go to the workshop for a few hours.
Friday, 9 June 2023
I spent several hours in the workshop. Since the mechanic had to get some spare parts, he informed me that I could only pick up the pick-up truck in the evening. Pat called me from the workshop, saying that she wasn't feeling well and could only take care of a portion of the dogs as a result.
In the early evening, the repair is completed, and I can pick up the pick-up truck. When I arrive at the shelter, it's already dark. Pat left some rice for me to feed the dogs in the big Sala area. I also distribute medication to Billy and Kyra; there's nothing more I can do.
Afterward, I visit Dr. Oi to find out how the female dog with the swollen front leg is doing. The leg has already been amputated, and the procedure is said to have gone smoothly. The dog will stay at the clinic for a week.
Yesterday evening, Ba Bät's son informed me that Neung isn't doing well. I had planned to bring him to the shelter in the afternoon. I will check on Neung tomorrow afternoon and, if necessary, take him to the shelter.
Saturday, 10 June 2023
Today I had to cope with the loss of one of my shelter dogs and likely the loss of one of my temple dogs as well. When I entered the newly created area in the morning, I saw, to my horror, Dina lying on the ground, bitten to death. I had moved Dina to the new area after she was harassed by Cookie again. The last time I had left the area, Dina was only with Nuri, Mona, and the two puppies, Tarik and Tibor. It's possible that Dina had opened a small gap next to the gate, allowing some dogs to enter her area. One of them was Dahn. She had a bloody spot on her forehead, but none of the other dogs had bite wounds.
I take Dina to the treatment room and seal off the small opening that was created. Then I sit with Dina for half an hour, mourning. Dina was the sweetest dog you can imagine, but despite her size, she was constantly targeted. I had moved her to different areas several times, but she always wanted to go back to the dogs she came to the shelter with. I had assumed that the newly created area was the safest for her. Everything went well for two days, but I can't explain what triggered the attack.
After Jutta and I finished all our morning routine tasks, we drive to the Nernplubwan Clinic and leave Dina there for cremation. Then we go to the temple to pick up Neung. However, despite an intensive search, I can't find him. I contact Ba Bät, who tells me that she hasn't seen Neung for three days. So I have to return empty-handed, and I have little hope of seeing Neung again.
On the way back to the shelter, I stop by the Dr. Oi Clinic to inquire about the condition of the dog that underwent surgery. Dr. Oi tells me that she's satisfied with the healing progress. The dog has already eaten. When I arrive at the shelter, I feed Kylie, Roshi, and the dogs in the large Sala area with rice food, and then I feed the dogs in the house with dry food.
Today has once again taken a toll on me, but at least it ended with hope that the dog who underwent surgery will soon recover.
Sunday, 11 June 2023
Jutta is once again helping me energetically today, and together we are carrying out our routine tasks. After preparing the rice feed, I go through all the areas. In the area with the three rooms, I miss Yuki, who usually comes running, barking, when I enter the area. Even after an extensive search, I can't find her. The fence shows no signs of damage, but I still look for Yuki in the neighboring area and the surrounding fields. I can't find any trace of her and I can't figure out where she could have gone. All the other dogs are accounted for and unharmed. Perhaps the fight in the adjacent area, where Dina was killed, has upset Yuki so much that she somehow managed to get over the fence. I will search for her in detail again tomorrow.
In the afternoon, I feed the rice meal to the dogs in the large area, take care of the dogs in the house area, and then go through all the areas again to clean. Shaina, Tibor, and Tarik are drawn to Nuri and Mona, so I let them stay overnight with them.
Monday, 12 June 2023
I'm at the shelter this morning, cleaning all the areas. Tibor, Shaina, and Tarik got along well with Nuri and Mona, so I'm leaving them with them. I take Norbu and Kito on board and pick up Rhonda in the city. Six years ago, Rhonda helped me once a week for a year with the care of the dogs at the Nongkraborg house. Rhonda now lives in Australia and has returned to Thailand for a few weeks.
Together, we take Norbu and Kito to Dr. Sudarat to have them sterilized. Back at the shelter, I show Rhonda around all the areas and introduce her to the dogs. She still recognizes some of them from her time at the Nongkraborg house. In the afternoon, we feed the dogs in the back areas, and I take Rhonda back to the hotel. Then, I pick up Norbu and Kito from the clinic and bring them to the treatment room. After that, I feed the dogs in the house and in the double-gate area.
Before dark, I go through all the areas once again to clean them and then leave the dogs for the night. Before heading home, I make a detour to visit the dogs at the Pong parking lot. Kolja has reappeared, but I don't see Masha or Dodo. Igor seems to have gained full trust in me and willingly lets me pet him. Kolja is also very friendly. I sit quietly with both dogs for a few minutes. During that time, they give me something that money can't buy.
Tuesday, 13 June 2023
Claudia is back in Pattaya and this morning she is actively helping me with the routine. Together, we first clean the areas. Claudia has brought two large pots of rice food, which she distributes separately to some dogs. However, the majority of it goes to the dogs in the area of the big sala.
While Claudia provides dry food and refills water for the dogs in the rear areas, I go on another search for Yuki. I extensively explore the surroundings of the shelter, but I can't find any trace of her. Claudia finishes cleaning the house and then leaves. In the late afternoon, I feed the dogs in the house and in the double gate area.
Wednesday, 14 June 2023
Today, Claudia is helping me again with cleaning, renewing the water, and distributing dry food. I administer the medications and prepare the rice meals. In the afternoon, I feed the rice meals to the puppies in the area of the large Sala and in the newly created area. After that, I feed the dogs in the house area and the double gate area.
Then, I go through all the areas again for cleaning. To my great surprise, I see Yuki sitting in her area in one of the Salas. She must have gone through a lot because she doesn't look happy. I can't explain where she could have been for three days. But I am very relieved that I didn't lose her as well.
Thursday, 15 June 2023
Today, Jutta and Claudia are doing the main work at the shelter. During my tour of all the areas, I miss Yuki again. I barricade the last possible hole under the fence and then go outside to check on her again. However, Yuki remains missing. Tomorrow, I will uncover a deep tunnel that the dogs have dug. She must be somewhere.
After distributing the morning medications, I hand over the responsibility to Jutta and Claudia and head to Baan Amphur. I get rice for Ba Bät and leave a bag of dry food at the rice store. At the entrance hall of the temple, I miss Tara and eventually find her locked inside the main assembly hall. Dogs have been locked there before, so I just need to find the monk who has the key. However, none of the monks are around, so I take the opportunity to visit David, who lives near the temple and is helping me with the planning of the new shelter.
Two hours later, I'm back at the assembly hall, which has now been opened. Tara wouldn't have been locked there for long, as she behaves normally. Of course, I also look for Neung again, but he remains missing. Dottie, Talo, and Jingo, whom I see at the entrance hall and also the beach dogs, are doing well.
I had promised the abbot of Wat Yang Yai to sterilize more dogs. Since I'm in the area, I take the opportunity to bring two more female dogs to Dr. Sudarat. After an hour, I can pick them up after they have been sterilized and return them to the monks.
In the late afternoon, I'm back at the shelter, taking care of the dogs in the house. All the other dogs have already been fed by Claudia and Jutta. I once again look for Yuki, but she remains missing. All the other dogs in the area of the three Salas are behaving completely normal. After a tour of all the other areas, I check on the dogs at the Pong parking lot. They are doing well, although I miss Kolja, who tends to come and go.
Friday, 16 June 2023
Rhonda found some time to help me with the shelter work again. I pick her up in the morning from the city, and our first task is to check if Yuki has returned. I partially uncover the deep tunnel that the dogs have dug next to the Salas, so I can illuminate it all the way to the end. Yuki is not inside. Since I can't rule out the possibility that she somehow managed to get over the fence, I search the entire area around the shelter extensively. I also ask Gop if she has seen Yuki, but unfortunately, she hasn't.
Since there is nothing else I can do, I start cleaning while Rhonda checks the dogs for ticks. The dogs are not infested, but we do find a few ticks on some of them from time to time.
In the area of the large Sala, I see the puppies cornering and attempting to attack Maggie Song. She remains unharmed, but for her safety, I bring her to Toya and Zola, where she can recover in the corner Sala. With Dahn's puppies now being bigger than Maggie, it seems the hierarchy has shifted.
In the afternoon, I take Rhonda back to the city and return to the shelter in the early evening. Since we left all the black puppies with Yuki, Mona, and Shaina, I check on them first. All the dogs were getting along well. Then I go to the neighboring area and see Yuki sitting healthy and lively in one of the Salas. So she was in her area all this time. The other dogs in the three Salas behave normally towards her.
Next, I start feeding the dogs in the back areas, then the dogs in the double gate area, and finally, the dogs in the house area. As darkness falls, I collect all the bowls and trays. After that, I bring Tasha, Tessa, and Tina back to the area of the large Sala. Tibo, Tarik, and Shaina stay with Nuri and Mona.
Saturday, 17 June 2023
Jutta is back at the shelter today, and we are carrying out our routine tasks. Yuki has disappeared again. She is no longer sitting under one of the pallets where I last found her yesterday, and she cannot be found anywhere in the entire area. The black puppies always gravitate towards the newly created area with Nuri and Mona, and that is where we also feed them. Maggie Song continues to stay with Toya and Zola. She is safe there.
Kylie does not want to leave the treatment room anymore, so I am respecting her wishes. I notice that Jake, who mostly stays in the back unit of the TVT Station with Satya, has a slightly pale palate, so I am starting a Doxy/Ferric treatment course with him. The Doxy/Ferric treatment for Kyra and Billy is being continued.
Sunday, 18 June 2023
Jutta has decided to rent a house in Pong in the autumn. We have already made contact with a future neighbor and agreed with his partner that he will mow the grass in the shelter today. Jutta takes another look at the house, and then the three of us drive to the shelter.
Before the worker mows the grass in any of the areas, I remove the feces and then sit with the dogs while the worker mows. Meanwhile, Jutta refills the drinking bowls and feeds the dogs in the areas that have already been mowed. The mowing and feeding in the back areas are completed in the early afternoon. I bring the worker back, and Jutta drives home.
In the late afternoon, I clean all the areas, feed the puppies with rice food, and the dogs in the house area and the double gate area with dry food. I take Maggie Song out of the Pat area and place her to Kylie in the treatment room. Maggie has two small bite wounds, which were obviously inflicted by Toya and Zola.
In the late evening, I meet Michael, who daily feeds the dogs in the Pong parking lot. The condition of Dodo and Rico's fur has only slightly improved, so the fish oil/Ferric treatment needs to be continued. All the other dogs are doing very well, but Kolja is still not joining us.
Monday, 19 June 2023
Pat is already feeding at the shelter when I arrive there in the morning. I distribute the morning medication to Billy, Kyra, Jake, Norbu, and Kito. Then I make my way to Wat Yang Yai. Unfortunately, the last of the unsterilized female dogs could not be captured, so I drive to Wat Amparahm empty-handed.
My hope of finding Neung again is disappointed. However, all the remaining dogs, including the recently sterilized beach dogs, are doing well, although Taco, Tara, and Dotty need another treatment of sulfur powder and coconut oil. During our beach walk, we come across Kofi and Toto. Deva has settled herself at the back of the assembly hall.
On the way back to the shelter, I purchase 120 kg of dry food from Khun Apisit. Then, I visit Dr. Oi to check on Dam. Dr. Oi informs me that Dam can be temporarily discharged. So, I will take Dam with me, hoping that she gets along with Satya and Jake in the rear unit of the TVT station.
Pat has fed the dogs and refilled water where necessary. I just need to clean up all the areas after storing the dry food. Now that the grass is short again, the work is somewhat easier. Pat has left the black puppies and Shaina with Nuri and Mona. They don't even want to go back to the area of the main Sala, so I let them have their way. Tomorrow, I will try to open the door to the area with the three Salas to see if we can integrate the dogs.
I now know for certain that Yuki never left her area. I discover her deeply hidden under a pallet in a hole the dogs have dug.
Tuesday, 20 June 2023
Claudia and Jutta are already at the shelter when I arrive there in the morning. Claudia has brought rice food, so I don't have to cook. While the two women clean the areas, start feeding and renewing the water, I distribute the morning medication.
After that, I drive to Dr. Oi and pick up Dam. When I try to take her out of the cage in front of the shelter, she becomes restless and bites around. Only the collar protects me from getting bitten, and I manage to bring Dam to the back unit of the TVT Station. Satya and Jake stay with her, and I close the gate.
Then we open the door that separates the newly created area from the area of the three Salas and watch as the black puppies mingle with Venus, Sita, Leo, Ruby, and Buffy. Yuki also emerges from her hole. Nuri and Mona stay in their area, while the remaining dogs switch between the two areas. Since the experiment seems to be working, I leave the door open.
While Claudia and Jutta finish their work, I feed the dogs in the house area and then go through all the areas again and dispose of the feces. Dam is lying under a bench and seems to get along with Satya and Jake.

Pat is already at the shelter when I arrive there in the morning. The first thing I do is check on Dam. She's still crouched under the bench in the back unit of the TVT station, growling at me. I distribute the medication to her, Billy, Kyra, Jake, and also to Norbu, whose scrotum is still a bit swollen. I don't need to medicate Kito anymore.
Then I check on the recently merged dogs in the newly created area and in the area of the three Salas. All the dogs get along well and spread out across the two areas. While Pat feeds the dogs, I clean the areas. Pat tells me that she was able to establish contact with Dam. Dam is eating well and seems to be settling in.
Thursday, 22 June 2023
Claudia is helping me again today with the thorough cleaning of the areas, the renewal of the drinking water, and the feeding. I distribute the medications and prepare the rice food. Dam has gotten rid of her collar, but it's not a problem at the moment. I feed her multiple times a day to help her regain her strength. She gets rice food, just like the puppies in the afternoon.
I close the door to the area with the three Salas during feeding. However, the black puppies, Nuri, and Mona usually stay in their area even when the door is open. The dogs in the area with the three Salas rarely wander into their area. Yuki reappears in the afternoon after I had previously searched for her in vain. Before leaving the dogs for the night, I also feed them in the house area and the double gate area.
Friday, 23 June 2023
Today, Pat is back at the shelter, cleaning the house area and feeding the animals. I distribute the morning medications, feed Dam, and then go through all the remaining areas to clean. Yuki has joined Nuri, Mona, and the black puppies. In the late afternoon, I return to the dogs, clean all the areas again, and feed Dam for the second time. Yuki is invisible again, but I'm no longer worried about her whereabouts.
Saturday, 24 June 2023
Claudia, Jutta, and I are dividing the tasks again this morning. While the two women clean, feed, and replenish water, I distribute the medications and prepare the rice food. Dam is still confined to the front unit of the TVT Station, where she can recover in peace. I feed her several times a day, and she is visibly gaining strength. I see Yuki with the black puppies in the new area, which is open to the area of the three Salas.
After completing all the basic tasks, we continue weighing the dogs. However, the scale malfunctions after a short time, so I can only weigh a few more dogs in the afternoon. At least all the puppies have been weighed now. The work needs to be continued in the rear areas in the coming days.
In the late afternoon, I am back at the shelter, feeding the rice food to the puppies and taking care of the dogs in the house area. Billy, Kyra, and Jake, who are still being treated for blood parasites, receive Ferric as usual.
Sunday, 25 June 2023
Claudia and Jutta are helping me energetically again this morning. They clean, refill water, and feed the dogs in the back areas. I distribute the morning medications and prepare the rice food.
In the afternoon, I am with Beppe. Beppe asked me yesterday to check on one of his dogs. It has been sick for a few days. When I arrive at Beppe's place, he explains to me that the dog has already passed away. Beppe found a dead rat in the enclosure, so I suspect that the dog got infected with Leptospirosis and died from acute kidney failure.
On the way back to the shelter, I get 240 kg of dry food from Khun Apisit. After cleaning the areas again, I store the dry food in the treatment room, then feed the dogs in the house and the double-gate area with dry food, and the puppies with rice food.
While feeding the puppies, I notice that Tessa seems to have injured her left hind leg. I'm also concerned about Jake's condition. I've been treating him for blood parasites for over a week, but his gums are still pale. Jake has also lost weight. A blood test will reveal what he's suffering from. Tomorrow, Dr. Oi needs to be introduced to Dam as well. I'm very pleased with Dam's healing process. She eats well and is now somewhat friendlier towards me. So tomorrow morning, I will take the three dogs to Dr. Oi to get them examined.
Monday, 26 June 2023
This morning, Pat is back at the shelter, cleaning the living area and feeding the animals. I distribute the morning medications and then take Dam, Jake, and Tessa on board. Dam is due for an examination, Jake's blood needs to be tested, and Tessa's hind leg injury requires treatment. The amputation wound is healing normally. Dam's bandages are reconnected, and Dam will need to be presented again in a week. Jake has blood drawn, and Tessa's hind leg is X-rayed, revealing a bone chip caused by a bite wound. Dam and Jake accompany me back, while Tessa remains at the clinic.
Since Dahn is constantly causing unrest, I decide to return her to her previous spot. However, I don't come across the woman who had taken in Dahn and the puppies back then, so I bring Dahn back to the shelter. Pat has already taken care of the dogs. I just need to clean the areas, dispose of the waste and a number of fallen palm fronds.
Tuesday, 27 June 2023
Claudia and Jutta are helping me this morning. Jutta is coming for the last time today because she's flying to Germany for about six weeks. As I enter the rest area, an unpleasant smell greets me. While Claudia starts cleaning the room, she discovers Nousha lying dead in a pool of blood under one of the benches. Just yesterday, Nousha was her normal self. She was one of the dogs who never had any health problems and were extremely low-maintenance. Nousha usually stayed in the rest area and rarely went out to the main area of the house. The cause of her sudden death is inexplicable to me.
Claudia, Jutta, and I carry out our routine tasks. The two women clean, refill water, and feed the dogs in the back areas. I distribute the morning medications and prepare rice food for the puppies.
In the early afternoon, I take Nousha to the NPW Clinic for cremation and then go to check on Tessa with Dr. Oi. Tessa needs surgery, but it can only be done once the infection has subsided. Tessa cries when she sees me and desperately wants to go with me, but she will have to stay at the clinic for the next few days.
I return to the shelter and first feed the dogs with rice food, then provide dry food to the dogs inside the house. Dam continues to receive rice food three times a day. Her overall condition is improving day by day. Roshi, Maggie Song, and Kylie also receive rice food. I now feed Hiro with rice food as well, as he seems to have trouble digesting dry food and has developed skin problems. Additionally, I apply a mixture of sulfur powder and coconut oil to his fur. I then go through all areas again, cleaning up the feces and a number of fallen palm fronds.
In the evening, I receive the test results for Jake. No heart worm infection was detected, but his red blood cell count is too low. His kidney and liver values are within the normal range. I will continue treating Jake, as well as Kyra and Billy, in the coming weeks.
Wednesday, 28 June 2023
While Pat feeds the dogs, I distribute the medications and then clean all areas. In the late afternoon, I pick up Tessa from the clinic. Dr. Oi wants Tessa to continue receiving medication for three more days. After that, she will decide if a procedure is possible and advisable.
As I try to carry Tessa into the treatment room, I realize that Roshi had been attempting to squeeze through the bars of the door to the resting room and got stuck. I manage to free her and secure the gate to the house area. This way, Maggie, Roshi, and Tessa have the treatment room and resting room to themselves. Kylie prefers to lay in one of the cages in the house area.
I feed Roshi, Tessa, and Dam with rice-based food and, as darkness falls, I clean the house area and the double gate area. Pat has taken good care of the dogs, so I hope to find them all healthy and lively again tomorrow morning.
Thursday, 29 June 2023
Claudia is bringing a large pot of rice feed this morning. We're cleaning the areas together. While Claudia feeds the dogs in the rear areas, I'm distributing the morning medications and bath Roshi. Afterwards, I'll feed the dogs in the house and in the double gate area. Roshi, Maggie, Kylie, Tessa, Dam, and Jake receive rice food. The gate between the house area and the rest area remains closed, allowing Tessa, Roshi, Kylie, and Maggie to move freely between the rest area and the treatment room. In the afternoon, I'll feed the puppies with rice food and then clean all areas again.
Friday, 30 June 2023
This morning, Pat is once again feeding the dogs while I distribute the morning medications. Afterwards, I apply the sulfur powder/coconut oil mixture to Roshi's skin. Roshi wants to return to her area and be with Darla, her mother. She has been trying to squeeze through the gate, but for now, she must stay inside the house. It's only there, if at all, that I can effectively address her skin issues.
Pat remains with the dogs while I drive to Baan Amphur. There, I buy rice for Ba Bät as I do every two weeks, and I leave a bag of dry food for her at the shop. It's currently brutally hot around noon, making it difficult to find all the dogs at the beach. Toto greets me, but I can't find Kofi. In the front area, I see Talo, Dottie, Tara, and Jingo.
It appears that Tara injured her right hind leg a few days ago. Since the wound requires treatment, I take her on board and introduce her to Dr. Oi. Tara receives care, and we travel together to the shelter, where I place her in the double-gated area. Since Tara also has skin issues, I will keep her with me for a while. With her weight of 35 kilos, she has enough authority not to be bothered by the other dogs. Additionally, she has known Jake and Satya for years. Pat has taken good care of the dogs, so I can save myself another visit to the shelter today.
Saturday, 1 July 2023
Claudia and I are going through our routine this morning. Together, we feed the rice food that Claudia brought to various dogs in the house and the double-gate area. Afterwards, I distribute the medications, and together we feed the remaining dogs with dry food. Once Claudia has left, I prepare the rice food for the puppies' evening feeding.
Then, I go with Gop to Khun Dun. Khun Dun can get Bravecto at a good price in Chonburi. Jutta had agreed to finance thirteen packs. Back at the shelter, I feed the puppies and then clean all areas.
Sunday, 2 July 2023
This morning, Pat is going through her routine while I'm with Tessa at Dr. Oi clinic after distributing the morning medication. Tessa is undergoing laser treatment and being bandaged again. She's already putting some weight on her injured hind leg. However, I'm leaving her in the treatment room for now.
Roshi seems to be benefiting from the change in environment. Her fur condition has slightly improved. Tara has settled in the double gate area and gets along well with the other dogs there. Jake and Satya, who have known each other for years, mostly lie together in the back unit of the TVT station, while Dam is still on her own in the front unit. Dam is progressing well; she has already gained a considerable amount of weight.
While Pat is still feeding, I distribute Bravecto to half of the dogs in the house area. The dosage, ranging from a quarter to half a tablet, depends on each dog's weight. The medication's effects can be seen within a few hours. Tomorrow, I will examine all the house dogs again. It's noteworthy that ticks are only found on the dogs in the house area.
In the afternoon, I leave Pat alone with the dogs and drive to Michael. Michael feeds some dogs near the village where he lives. The dogs belong to Thai people who don't take proper care of them. Michael has already had one of these dogs sterilized, and now it's time for the second one. The owner of the dog helps me bring a female dog named Lai into the cage, and half an hour later, I'm at Dr. Oi's clinic. Lai is examined, and it's determined that she has TVT (transmissible venereal tumor). So, sterilization is off the table for now. First, the genital cancer needs to be treated, which can take up to eight weeks.
Lai will stay in the clinic for two days, and then I will bring her back to her spot. After a week, she will be taken back to the clinic for the second chemotherapy treatment. This procedure will be repeated several times until sterilization can be performed. I hope that Lai and her owner will continue to be cooperative.
Monday, 3 July 2023
Claudia has already started working when I arrive at the shelter in the morning. The dogs from the big Sala area have once again gained access to the newly created area. Claudia has temporarily covered the opening, and I am sealing it off for the time being. There don't seem to be any bite incidents. I hope that Chang Wai will find time this week to take care of some repairs.
In the morning, stone tables and benches arrive. It's Claudia and Jutta's idea to place these weatherproof seating groups in different areas. Jutta financed the new purchase. Since the stone furniture is exceptionally heavy, the suppliers initially placed them in the double gate area. Now we still need to find some strong men who are not afraid of dogs to distribute the tables and benches across different areas.
After we distribute the medication, feed the dogs, refresh the water, and clean the areas, Claudia leaves, and I am with Gop at Khun Dun's. Since some dogs are experiencing fur problems again, I have decided to try a new type of food that Khun Dun can provide.
Back at the shelter, I store the food bags and clean all the areas once again. Then I distribute fish oil and Ferric to different dogs. Tessa, Maggie Song, Kylie, and Roshi continue to stay in the treatment room or the rest area. Aldo has joined them and refuses to go back to the house area.
Tuesday, 4 July 2023
Pat is already feeding when I arrive at the shelter. While I distribute the morning medications, Chang Wai shows up. I explain to him what needs to be done. He will probably be able to start the repair work over the weekend. Then, I visit Dr. Oi to inquire about Lai's condition. Lai has already received the first Vincristine injection. Tomorrow, I will be able to bring her back to her place temporarily.
In the afternoon, I return to the shelter. Pat has taken good care of the dogs. I clean all areas, dispose of feces and fallen palm fronds, and then distribute the evening medications.
Wednesday, 5 July 2023
Claudia brought a large pot of rice food, from which she distributes the majority to different dogs in the morning. Claudia starts with the routine while I pick up Lai from the clinic. Together, we place Lai in one of the house kennels. Then, I distribute the morning medications and fill the water containers.
In the afternoon, I notice that Lai is not comfortable inside the house and is howling continuously. She refuses to eat and take the medications. For this reason, I will bring her back to her place tomorrow and pick her up again for the second chemo injection at the beginning of next week.
Claudia has already fed the dogs in the back area, so in the afternoon, I only need to take care of the dogs inside the house and in the double-gate area. Then, I feed the remaining rice food and distribute the evening medications.
Thursday, 6 July 2023
This morning, Claudia takes over the work at the shelter. I return Lai to her spot and ask Michael to inform Lai's owner that she is back. On my way to Lai's spot, I notice a dog with a nasty paw injury as I drive by. After taking care of Lai, Michael and I start searching for the dog and eventually find him in a property where several dogs are kept. The residents explain to me that the dog wandered into their place and that they had him treated a month ago. I make arrangements with the helpful people to take the dog to Dr. Oi for an examination tomorrow morning.
Back at the shelter, Claudia has already done some of the main tasks. I distribute the morning medications and then go to Dr. Oi with Tessa. Thankfully, Tessa is pain-free and able to walk a bit better. The infection has subsided. Tessa receives another laser treatment and is released without a new bandage. However, she will have to continue staying in the treatment room for now.
I notice that Roshi's fur condition has further improved. The change in environment, rice-based diet, and administration of fish oil seem to be working. Since Claudia has already fed the dogs in the back areas, I only need to clean the areas, dispose of the feces, and feed the dogs in the house area. Afterward, I distribute the evening medications.
Friday, 7 July 2023
Khun U, who takes care of Dang, the male dog with the injured paw, helped me bring Dang into the cage this morning. Dang is relatively easy to handle, so there were no difficulties in transferring him to the clinic. Dr. Beam examined Dang and determined that the quality of his red blood cells does not currently allow for a procedure. Dang will need to be medicated for two weeks before a possible intervention can be considered. I'm leaving Dang overnight at the clinic and will discuss with Khun U tomorrow morning how we can proceed.
Claudia has already completed several of the main tasks. While I distribute the morning medications and clean the areas, Claudia takes care of feeding and refilling the water. In the afternoon, I return to the shelter, feed the dogs in the house area, and distribute the evening medications. I then visit the clinic to inquire about Dang's condition. I arrange with Dr. Beam to return Dang to Khun U for the next two weeks.
Saturday, 8 July 2023
Today, for the first time in a long time, I am working completely on my own. Jutta is in Germany for a few weeks, Pat has taken two weeks off, and Claudia can't help me every day. I'm trying to systematically and calmly tackle the necessary tasks.
To start off, I go through all the areas to check if all the dogs are healthy and lively. Fortunately, Lizzy is back to normal after not using her left front paw for two days. Dang is now moving quite well on her three legs. I clean the house, the area around the house, and the double gate area using the TVT station, and then distribute the morning medication. After that, I prepare the rice food and feed the dogs in the front areas first, and then the dogs in the rear areas. I only need to refill water in the house area. Afterwards, I clean all the areas, dispose of the waste and several palm fronds. Finally, I distribute the evening medication. I save the rice food for tomorrow, as the dogs are still being fed dry food.
Then I go to Dr. Oi's clinic to check on Dang. I arrange with Dr. Beam to keep Dang in the clinic for one more night. Tomorrow afternoon, I will bring her back to Khun U and instruct her on which medications to administer at what times. Aside from saving costs, it is better for Dang to stay in her familiar place for the next two weeks.
Afterwards, I visit Klaus, who is taking care of a female dog with three puppies, approximately five months old. Klaus wants to have the dogs sterilized. It's still too early for the puppies, but the mother dog should be operated on soon. However, Klaus can't catch the dog or even bring her into the cage, so he needs to try reaching out to residents who can hopefully help him with that.
Sunday, 9 July 2023
Claudia is already at the shelter early and has started working when I arrive. Together, we distribute the rice food that I prepared yesterday, along with a large portion that Claudia brought. Afterwards, I administer the morning medications while Claudia begins feeding and refreshing the water in the back areas. Then, I clean the rear areas, disposing of the waste and several palm fronds that fell overnight.
In the late afternoon, I'm at the clinic to pick up Dang. Since no one is present at Khun U's house, I bring Dang with me for now. Dang quickly gains trust in me, allowing me to release him into the resort courtyard. After exploring the area, he obediently lies down under my desk while I work on the computer. Dang is an extremely lovable dog who deserves to be helped as much as possible. I will do everything within my power to restore joy and quality to his life.
In the early evening, I take Dang to Khun U and inform her about the administration of the various medications he should receive in the next two weeks. I will regularly check to ensure the medications are being reliably administered.
Monday, 10 July 2023
I'm already at the shelter early in the morning, starting with the cleanings. An hour later, Chang Wai arrives with materials to build two Salas. Claudia takes over, and Chang Wai begins constructing the Sala frames.
Then, I go into town and get fifteen metal sheets for the Sala covers and to replace several sheets that have rusted through. On the way back, I check on Lai and Dang. I find Lai on the street in front of Michaels Village, and Dang is lying on the terrace at the house of the people who take care of her. Both dogs are doing well. I will take Lai to the clinic tomorrow for the second Vincristine injection.
Back at the shelter, Claudia has already cleaned the rear areas and started feeding the dogs. I distribute the morning medications, and together we feed the dogs in the house area. Claudia leaves, and so does Chang Wai after completing the Sala frames. I dispose of the waste and additional palm fronds and then distribute the evening medications.
Tuesday, 11 July 2023Chang Wai is back at the shelter early in the morning, continuing the work. After Claudia arrives, I drive to Khun Kung's place to pick up Lai. It's time for Lai's second Vincristine injection. Once I've returned Lai to her spot, I distribute the morning medications at the shelter and work through the daily routine with Claudia.
During this time, I notice that Norbu has injured his front leg. There was probably a scuffle among the dogs while Chang Wai was working at the large sala area. I take Norbu to the clinic where Dr. Beam treats him. Norbu gets a pressure bandage and will be medicated with Tolfedine and Enrofloxacin. To help Norbu recover well, I place him in the treatment room with Tessa, Kylie, and Maggie Song.
While Chang Wai welds together the frames for the resting areas to be added to the large sala, I go through all the areas once again to clean them up. After Chang Wai leaves in the late afternoon, I then distribute the evening medications.
Wednesday, 12 July 2023
Chang Wai is back at the shelter early in the morning, continuing his work. I start with the clean-up and then distribute the morning medications. Claudia arrives, feeds the dogs, and refreshes the water supply while I gather more supplies. In the afternoon, I return to the shelter, clean all the areas, and then distribute the evening medications.
Thursday, 13 July 2023
In the morning, I buy wood with Chang Wai for the completion of the Sala and the resting areas. Chang Wai stores the materials and then leaves. He has other things to do today. I clean the house, the double gate area, and the front areas. After that, I distribute the medications. Claudia arrives and takes over.
Rene and Heidi have collected money for a food donation. We drive together to Khun Dun's place and pick up 260 kg of dry food there. 20 kg goes to Gop, and I store the rest in the treatment room. Claudia has already cleaned the remaining areas, refilled water, and fed all the dogs. That way, I can finish a bit earlier today.
Friday, 14 July 2023
Chang Wai arrives this morning with his helper. Claudia arrives shortly after, and Pat is back as well. While I distribute the morning medications, Chang Wai and his helper carry materials into the newly created area. A scuffle breaks out among the dogs, and Mona gets bitten. Mona is bleeding from multiple bite wounds, and Claudia accidentally injures her finger during the incident as well. I carry Mona into the treatment room and provide her with immediate care.
Once all the dogs are back in their respective areas, Chang Wai and his helper continue their work. Claudia cleans the areas, and Pat begins the feeding. Meanwhile, I'm at the clinic with Mona and Tessa. Tessa undergoes laser treatment again, and Mona's wounds are attended to. I can pick her up in the afternoon. Tessa's treatment is temporarily completed, and she now needs to relearn how to walk on all fours. Pat and Claudia stay at the shelter, while I drive home for lunch.
I return in the afternoon, and Pat has already left. I take over from Claudia. The two women have fed all the dogs, cleaned the areas, and refilled water. After Claudia leaves, I retrieve Mona from the clinic. Some of her wounds had to be stapled, and she is fully bandaged, but she's already recovering well. I move her to one of the indoor kennels, quickly clean the front areas, and distribute the evening medications.
In the early evening, with Nick's help, I bring Long to the clinic. Long is one of the dogs Nick cares for near the Pong parking lot. Long has injured his scrotum and needs to be neutered. The injury turns out to be minor during the examination. If the bloodwork is normal, Long can be neutered tomorrow.
Saturday, 15 July 2023
Chang Wai has completed four sala structures and is currently working on the benches to be added to the large sala. Two of the new salas will be set up in the newly created area, one in the large sala area, and the fourth one will go in the double gate area.
I distribute the morning medication, clean the areas, and then feed the dogs. In the meantime, Chang Wai and I fetch more plywood panels. Since this morning, we have had no water. The pump has run dry, and we discover that the tank is empty. The pump in the neighboring house, which draws water from the well, is also not working anymore. After a thorough inspection, Chang Wai manages to get that pump running again, allowing us to refill the water tank at the house.
In the afternoon, Chang Wai finishes the work. I go through all the areas again, cleaning up the feces and some fallen palm fronds. Afterwards, I distribute the evening medication.
Dr. Oi informs me that Long has been neutered. Chris, who is covering the costs, agrees that Long can stay in the clinic for another two to three days. Mona is still in one of the house kennels. She will have to wait there for a few more days until I can take her to the clinic for further examination. Dam is getting closer to me day by day. Today, I was able to stroke her extensively. Tara's hind leg injury has healed. However, her fur condition needs to improve before I can take her back to the temple.
Sunday, 16 July 2023
I'm at the shelter early in the morning, starting with the cleaning. After a short time, Chang Wai, his helper, and Claudia arrive. Claudia brings two large pots of rice food. After distributing the morning medications, Claudia takes over. Chang Wai starts working on completing a step for the house area. Concrete slabs that used to provide access to the house had to be removed as they had become brittle.
I take two sacks of dry food on board and head to the temple. There, I buy rice for the next two weeks and prepare a sack of dry food for Ba Bät. I give the second sack to the beach people. Some of the beach dogs accompany me on my walk along the shore. However, I can't find Kofi or Toto. So, I approach the man who takes care of them. He assures me that both of them are doing well. I promise to give him 40 kg of dry food for his dogs, as well as Kofi and Toto, in a week.
On the way back to the shelter, I pick up fifteen more metal sheets. Back at the shelter, Chang Wai and his helper have laid a water line from the house to the rear areas. Claudia has fed all the dogs and replaced the water where necessary.
After she leaves, I go through all the areas cleaning and then distribute the evening medications. I then go to the clinic to check on Long. He is recovering and will be able to return to his spot in a few days.
Monday, 17 July 2023
I'm back at the shelter early in the morning and start cleaning. Chang Wai and his helper arrive and continue with the repairs. I distribute the morning medications and then clean other areas. Pat arrives and begins feeding.
By late afternoon, Chang Wai and his helper have repaired the large sala and installed Eet-Blocks along the damaged metal sheets. I go through all areas once again for cleaning and dispose of the feces and some palm fronds. Afterwards, I distribute the evening medications. Early in the evening, I order more Eet-Blocks and check on Long on the way. Dr. Oi recommends keeping him for about three more days.
Tuesday, 18 July 2023
I'm back at the shelter early in the morning and start cleaning. Chang Wai and his helper arrive and continue with the repairs. Claudia comes and begins feeding. I distribute the morning medications and continue cleaning. Pat arrives and takes Maggie Song with her. Louise has agreed to temporarily take in Maggie. I also bring Tessa back to her siblings. Playing with them and the other dogs is the best way for her to rebuild the muscles in her injured hind leg. The treatment room and the resting area now only have Kylie, Roshi, and Mona.
While Chang Wai and his helper replace damaged metal sheets and repair doors, I sit with the dogs in the areas where work is being done. The dogs in the front areas are now familiar with the workers, but I occasionally have to calm down the dogs in the back areas during the repair work. By late afternoon, the new resting platforms are also completed. I go through all the areas once again for cleaning and then distribute the evening medications.
Wednesday, 19 July 2023
It was agreed for this morning that the new staff, Khun O, would start working at the shelter. However, it rained until early morning, so we had to postpone her commencement of work to tomorrow. Pat informed me that she'll be at the shelter as soon as the rain subsides.
Once the rain stopped, I went to pick up Lai from Khun Kung. Lai received her third Vincristine injection at the Dr. Oi Clinic. Long isn't particularly happy being confined to his cage, but due to the unpredictable weather, he'll have to endure two more days until the surgical wound is fully healed.
With Lai on board, I head to the shelter. Pat had already started working. I attempt to release Dam in the double-gate area. It was going well until she got into a scuffle with Billy, who sustained a few superficial wounds. Dam remained unharmed. Her amputation clearly hasn't affected her fighting spirit, so I must be cautious about introducing her to other dogs.
While Pat feeds the dogs, I distribute the morning medications and then return Lai to her place. In the afternoon, I am back to the shelter and proceed to clean all the areas. In the large Sala area, I noticed that Cookie, who had been developing positively since Dina's passing, is now being singled out as the target. After being attacked by the puppies, she hides under the Sala, and I have to pull her out. I relocate her to Toya and Zola, hoping that the three of them will get along. They have enough space and a large Sala at their disposal.
After completing the clean-up, I administer the evening medications. Mona and Roshi prefer staying inside the house and are accepted there by the dogs. However, I still lock them in the resting area overnight.
Thursday, 20 July 2023
I am at the shelter early in the morning, welcoming Khun O and her companion, Khun Pok. After introducing them to the dogs in the double gate area, we begin cleaning the indoor space and then proceed to clean all the other areas from dog waste. Claudia arrives and takes over.
I drive with Mona to the clinic, where her bandage is changed. I am informed that Long will need to stay in the clinic for two more days. Back at the shelter, Claudia informs me that Khun O and Khun Pok have already left. I distribute the morning medications, and Claudia starts the feeding.
In the early afternoon, I visit Lai's owner and provide her with Samarine for the next few days. Lai has successfully gone through her third chemo injection. I also check on Dang. The front gate is locked, but she comes to the gate when I call her. Her injured hind leg has been treated.
Later, I am in town and get 240 kg of dry food from Khun Apisit. Back at the shelter, I store the bags, clean all the areas, dispose of the waste and several palm fronds, and finally distribute the evening medications.
Friday, 21 July 2023
It has been raining heavily all night and, though it's tapering off, it continues into the early afternoon. My first morning glance is directed at Tessa and Cookie. I wasn't sure if Tessa could jump into one of the Salas, and I am curious if Cookie would have been able to share the big Sala with Zola and Toya. However, I'm relieved to see Tessa sitting in one of the Salas and I find Cookie also dry. Nevertheless, I decide to move Cookie to the quiet room for now.
Part of the treatment room and the quite room are flooded. It takes me an hour to dry both rooms. Pat arrives and starts feeding while I distribute the morning medications. Khun Pok and Khun O don't show up, so I clean the areas in the drizzling rain. All the dogs in the back areas have weathered the heavy rain well. They all have enough shelter thanks to the numerous Salas available to them.
In the early afternoon, I leave Pat in charge and return to the shelter later in the afternoon. Due to the rain, several palm fronds have fallen again, which I dispose of first. Then I clean the areas once more and distribute the evening medications.
For the past two days, I've been letting Dam spend some time under my supervision in the double gate area so that she gets used to the dogs there, and the dogs get used to her. It's going quite well now, and Dam is happy to have some exercise. Dealing with her is becoming easier. Today, she even let me pick her up, and she runs around agilely, seemingly forgetting she once had four legs.

Early in the morning at the shelter, I start by cleaning the house, the TVT station, and all the areas. It rained again last night, but not as heavily and continuously as the day before. The house and TVT station stayed mostly dry. Once I finish the cleaning, I distribute the morning medications.
Around noon, I finally manage to attend a long-overdue dentist appointment. When I return home, it starts raining again. Despite the rain not letting up, I'm back at the shelter in the late afternoon to feed the dogs. They retreat to the Salas, and after administering the evening medications, I can also escape from the unpleasant rainy weather.

In the morning, I pick up Dang and then head to the shelter where Pat is already working. I take Mona on board and drive to the clinic with her and Dang. Tomorrow, Dang's hind leg is scheduled for amputation, while Mona will have her stitches removed. Thankfully, she has recovered well from the scuffle. Since she has integrated well with the pack of dogs in the house area, I decide to leave her there. Dam is also adjusting better and better. Even without constant supervision, she now moves quite naturally among the dogs in the double gate area.
While Pat feeds the dogs, I clean the areas. In the early afternoon, Katyusha and David visit us. They live in Pattaya and found our facility through Google. I take them on a two-hour tour of the entire shelter. Upon saying goodbye, David generously donates to us and promises to come back. After Pat leaves, I go through all the areas once more for cleaning and then distribute the evening medications.

In persistent light rain, I start the morning chores at the shelter. Claudia arrives and brings two large pots of rice food. Since the rain is easing up, I decide to go ahead and have the grass mowed today. I pick up the worker in Pong, and he finishes the job in just three hours. While he mows, I clean the areas.
After returning the worker, I pick up Long from the clinic and bring him back to his spot. I entrust Claudia with the responsibility of feeding the dogs and later in the afternoon, I go to Jomtien to pick up Daniela.
Daniela regularly assists me, and she has been to the shelter before. Now, it's time for a visit to the temple dogs. Thankfully, the weather calms down, and I can show Daniela all the temple dogs. During our walk on the beach, we also encounter Toto and Kofi. We hand over a bag of dry food to the man taking care of them. Near the boats, we notice that Saddhu has injured his front paw. I try to get him into the cage, but he resists. Ba Bät and her son feed the dogs and inform me that the injury is probably minor. I'll check on that in the next few days.
After dropping Daniela back at the hotel, I return to the shelter in the early evening. Mona, who had been staying comfortably in the house area all day, goes back to the quiet room. Roshi, who seems to be accepted by the dogs in the house area and is visibly comfortable among them, I leave in one of the open cages. I quickly clean the house area and the double gate area, and then I distribute the evening medications.

When I arrive at the shelter in the morning, Claudia is already working. We go about our routine tasks, and afterwards, I install hoses on the water faucets in the back areas. There are plans to extend the water pipeline to additional areas, making it easier to provide fresh drinking water. Claudia takes care of feeding and refilling water containers, while I clean all the areas after feeding.
Today, Dam has mostly stayed in the double gate area. Claudia closed the door to the unit where she usually lies only during feeding time. Tara has retreated to Dam's unit, and it seems that Dam doesn't mind. However, Tara is not feeling well today. She's panting and barely moving, probably because she's overweight. Tomorrow, her treatment with Samarine will be temporarily finished, and in a few days, the fish oil treatment will also end. Then, Tara will return to Wat Amparahm, where we hope she will be more active than she is currently.

Today is the day for Lai's weekly Vincristine injection again. Together with Michael, we manage to get her into the cage without any problems. Lai receives her treatment, and Dr. Beam shows me how much the tumor has already shrunk. There are no visible signs externally, but the treatment needs to continue for at least two more weeks.
After returning Lai to her place, I go to see Wolfgang. He asked me to examine his two German Shepherds, Lilly and Mela. Lilly has developed a growth on her lower abdomen, and Mela is not doing well overall. Together, we drive to the clinic, where Dr. Beam examines both dogs. The growth on Lilly must be surgically removed, which will be done next Friday. Mela will stay at the clinic for observation.
Once I brought back Alex and Lilly, Pat and Claudia inform me that they have completed all the tasks at the shelter. All the dogs have been taken care of, and there were no incidents. Dam spent the whole day in the double-gate area and seems to be getting along well with the dogs there, and they are friendly towards her too. However, Tara doesn't seem to be doing well. I'll take her back to the temple tomorrow; she urgently needs some exercise.

When I arrive at the shelter in the morning, Claudia is already at work. I pick up Tara and take her back to the temple. Hopefully, she'll feel better there soon. After letting her out, she's already trotting around again. I'll check on her and Saddhu in three days since I couldn't find Saddhu during the beach walk. Other than that, all the beach dogs are gathered, including Toto and Kofi.
After taking care of some important matters in Pattaya, I'm back at the shelter in the afternoon. Claudia has already finished all the tasks, so I just need to do a final cleaning of all the areas. Toya and Zola seem bored in their section, as they've partially opened a metal sheet leading to the neighboring area where Nuri, Ruby, and the black puppies are. However, they haven't entered the area, and I temporarily seal the opening with a pallet. Chang Wai will be back at the shelter on Saturday, and he'll replace this damaged metal sheet among other things.
The dogs are in a relatively peaceful mood, but I have to break up a fight between Dam and Billy. Despite her disability, Dam has fought her way up the hierarchy in the double gate area. Billy doesn't seem happy about it, so I offer him to return to the house area, but he declines. As darkness falls, I administer the evening medication.

Today, Pat takes over the work at the shelter in the morning. I'm with Alex to bring Lilly to the clinic. Lilly is scheduled for surgery later today. She takes a seat on the backseat, and we have no trouble getting her to Dr. Beam, who will perform the operation. Mella can be temporarily discharged and will receive medication from Alex for two weeks until she can also undergo surgery.
After dropping off Mella and Alex at home, I head to Thai Watsadu to get more metal sheets. Tomorrow, Chang Wai will be back at the shelter to replace some more metal sheets and build two more sleeping benches, along with an another sala for the double-gate area. Additionally, we plan to repair the entrance gate and install a door between the area where Zola and Toya are currently staying and the area for the black puppies. This will make the shelter more flexible and provide the dogs with more options for their stay. If needed, the door can be closed at any time. It's worth a try to bring the dogs together.
Chang Wai already has the measurements today to extend the water pipeline to the rear areas and will begin work tomorrow morning. After Pat leaves, I clean up all the areas, dispose of waste, and clear some palm fronds. Then, I distribute the evening medications. In the evening, Dr. Beam informs me that Lilly's surgery was successful. I will visit her and Dang at the clinic tomorrow.
Saturday, 29 July 2023
Chang Wai and his helper are back at the shelter early in the morning. Throughout the day, they extend the water pipeline, so now most areas have access to water taps. They are also constructing a second sala in the double-gate area, which will be completed tomorrow. In addition, they have carried out some repair work.
I spend the entire day at the shelter, only interrupted by a trip with Jake to the clinic. Jake is eating, but he's been losing more and more weight. Despite undergoing a five-week Doxy/Ferric treatment, he tested positive for Anaplasmosis and Erlichiosis. Both diseases are transmitted through tick bites. Since I didn't find any ticks on Jake at the shelter, I assume he must have gotten infected at the temple. That's also why I took him in due to his weight loss there.
Chang Wai and his assistant work until late afternoon. While they focus on the sala and gate repairs, I take care of feeding the dogs and cleaning the areas. After that, I administer the evening medications.
Sunday, 30 July 2023
I'm back at the shelter early in the morning and start cleaning. An hour later, Chang Wai and his helper arrive. They begin by crafting two resting benches for the quiet area, the new sala, and repairing the entrance gate and the gate to the house area.
While I clean the rear areas, Darla and Victor get into a scuffle as I enter the Dodger area. Unfortunately, Darla gets injured as a vein is hit, and blood starts to spray. I quickly pick up Darla and rush her to the clinic. She receives medical attention, and half an hour later, the wound is stitched up. Meanwhile, I clean the pickup truck, whose backseat and passenger seat are covered in blood. Darla will probably have to stay at the clinic for a few days. Of course, I also check on Lilly and Dang. According to Dr. Beam, both are on the path to recovery.
Back at the shelter, I discover that the power has gone out, causing work to be put on hold for two hours. Due to this delay, Chang Wai was unable to complete all the planned tasks. However, I use the time to feed the dogs and, once the power is back, renew the water supply. Then, I clean the areas again while Chang Wai installs a passageway door between the newly created area where Zola and Toya are currently staying and the puppy area. This gives me the option to introduce Zola and Toya to the puppies and provide more space for all the dogs, with the flexibility to close the door if the introduction poses any problems.
In the double-gate area, all the dogs are getting along pretty well now. Today, they weren't too happy because I had to confine them in the two TVT units while the workers were welding the frames for the beds and the door in the double-gate area. Billy now stays in the quiet area.
Monday, 31 July 2023
Chang Wai and his helper come over this morning for what seems to be the last round of work. However, Chang Wai informs me that the people he had arranged to help carry the tables and benches to different areas won't be coming because they're afraid of dogs. Nevertheless, we manage to bring one of the step benches inside the house, and we lift the other one that was outside onto the stage in the large Sala. I'll try to organize helpers over the weekend to distribute the tables and benches. Another door will be installed between two sections, and a water faucet will be set up in the area for Nina, Bum, and Beppe. This now provides a water source for all the rear sections.
In the morning, Pat arrives and tends to the dogs. After the workers leave, I drive to Baan Amphur, buy rice, leave a sack of dry food at the feeding store for Ba Bät, and give another sack to the people at the beach. The man who takes care of Toto and Kofi tells me he still has enough food. Except for Tara, I find all the dogs at the front hall and the beach. I search extensively for her, but she remains missing. I'm worried she might have passed away. Saddhu is still moving on three legs. So, his front leg injury needs to be treated. I hope Bua is available to dart Saddhu.
On my way back to the shelter, I pick up 240 kg of dry food from Khun Apisit and store the sacks in the treatment room. Pat has already tended to the dogs, so I just need to clean the areas. Jake receives his evening dose of Ferric. I leave the doors of the TVT Station open. The dogs now have enough space in the two units and can also retreat to the two Salas in the double gate area.
