It is also a record of my efforts and setbacks in attempting to enhance their lives. I rely on my memory to recall events that took place between 2008 and 2011. Beginning in January 2012, I began compiling a monthly summary of my work. As of 2023, I publish daily reports in English as well.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comBlogger127125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-5941383251244510242024-02-29T16:02:00.008+07:002024-03-02T16:05:44.174+07:00
Activity Report - February 2024

At the beginning of the month, I found Kofi and Jingo back at their spots on the beach and at the front hall. Noona, a dog from the neighboring house, had obviously been hit by a car and was operated on by Dr. Oi. Another dog and a puppy from the neighborhood also went to Dr. Oi's clinic for treatment. During the spaying of the dog, it was discovered that she was suffering from uterine infection and a hernia. The puppy had a bite wound on its neck. Both dogs returned to their owners at the end of the month.

I had three more female dogs and two newly arrived beach puppies sterilized at the Sudarat Clinic. Kenzo, who had lived in the shelter for five years and was taken in by Jutta a few weeks ago, has passed away. Tasha climbed over a two-meter-forty-high gate and was attacked in the neighboring area. I brought her to the clinic, but unfortunately, she passed away after an hour.

Victor, Talib, and Dahn were unhappy in their area, and since I didn't have another place for them in the shelter, I took them to Wat Amparahm. After visiting them every two days, they settled in at the front hall and seemed to be okay with their relocation. Paula, who was at the shelter for two weeks for treatment, also returned to the beach.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-25617500767760656412024-01-31T16:40:00.002+07:002024-02-01T16:43:46.328+07:00

Activity Report - January 2024

The shelter dogs made it through the senseless New Year's fireworks reasonably unscathed. I find some dogs outside the shelter in the morning but can easily bring them back. Over the next few days, I have to repeatedly collect dogs found outside. However, the metal sheet fences have become so hole-ridden that interior fences urgently need to be installed. This eventually happens with the construction of an additional sixty meters of chain-link fence in the middle of the month.

Despite the complete fencing in the farthest area, Maggie continues to find her way outside. Eventually, I give in to her will and provide for her right next to the rear section of the shelter. the dogs in the house.

Distemper is spreading in the vicinity of
Mabprachan 7/11. Several dogs succumb to the infection throughout the

too was infected with distemper and couldn't be saved.

Towards the

The dogs have embraced their new environment and are comfortable there.

In the middle of the month, I took in two approximately two-month-old puppies. They were found motherless by Beppe, a friend and fellow rescuer. Beppe couldn't accommodate the puppies, so they were accepted by the household dogs and are thriving.

Paula, one of the beach dogs accessible to me, developed a severe swelling on her right shoulder. I treated her at the shelter and will keep her there. Shortly after taking Paula in, there were cases of distemper among the beach dogs. Paula also exhibited no symptoms of distemper.

At the end of the month, I found Bonnie dead in her kennel. Lai has completed the six-week TVT treatment, Dang has overcome the effects of amputation, and Tualek's deep back wound has healed well. The last remaining dog from Wat Yang Yai has been sterilized.

My shelter dog Luna has completed a six-week Doxy/Ferric treatment. Kenji's treatment is also finished. Merlin and Jake's Doxy/Ferric treatment will continue. Tinka, who couldn't walk for two weeks after being bitten by a centipede, is now fully mobile. Tessa has been sterilized. She has recovered from the bone splintering and is walking normally again.

The last week of the month caused me several problems and concerns. Dogs escaped from two of the rear areas, but I was able to bring them back fairly quickly. Tina, who had been spending a lot of time in the area where Victor, Dahn, and Talib live for weeks, was bitten to death. I suspect it was Talib, as a few days later, he intruded into the area with the black puppies and killed his brother, Jomo. Both incidents occurred when I wasn't at the shelter.

Talib had previously displayed aggressive behavior towards his brothers, Kito and Norbu, which is why I relocated them to other areas. He gets along well with his mother, Dahn, and Victor, and he is friendly and approachable towards me. lost weight. Luna has completed her Doxycycline/Ferric treatment. She
has gained weight and integrated well into the double-gate area. I will

Mona was also attacked, but both dogs are on the road to recovery. managed to avoid surgery. By the end of the month, she was moving almost
normally among her siblings. Lai, a dog under Michael's care, was
diagnosed with TVT. She's receiving Vincristine injections weekly,
showing promising progress. Near Lai's area, I found a dog with a
severely inflamed hind paw, necessitating amputation. Dang had to remain
in the clinic until month-end.

Major repairs were carried out in
the shelter within two weeks, including manufacturing new Salas and
resting areas. The commotion led to an attack on Mona, requiring a few
days of treatment but she recovered by month's end. Tara's hind leg
injury healed well, though she remained in the shelter for coat
improvement. Maggie Song found a foster home with Louise, who aims to
find her a permanent home.

Dam, amputated over a month ago, has
grown comfortable and is thriving. Tara, however, appeared uneasy and
was returned to the temple in hopes of her recovery in a familiar
setting. Alex, an old friend, asked me to check his two German
Shepherds, Lilly and Mella. Lilly underwent a procedure and stayed at
the clinic until month-end. Jake, relocated from the temple, is losing
weight, testing positive for Anaplasmosis and Erlichiosis, requiring
extended treatment. Darla got into a scuffle and needed stitches,
spending a few days in a house kennel to limit movement.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-39833354391552915682023-06-30T21:16:00.002+07:002023-07-01T21:17:54.896+07:00
Activity Report - June 2023

On my way to the shelter, I spotted a dog with a
severely swollen front paw in a field. When I inquired about it, the
residents informed me that the dog had been hit by a vehicle months ago
and hadn't received any treatment since then. With the help of the
residents, I managed to take the dog to Dr. Oi, who deemed amputation of
the leg necessary. After a successful operation, I temporarily
accommodated Dam at the shelter ten days later.

Shaina,
Arkan, Norbu, Talib, and Jomo, the larger puppies, have been sterilized
during the month. Dina, who had been constantly harassed by Cookie and
whom I tried to make comfortable in several areas, was fatally attacked
in the newly created area adjacent to the large Sala area. Dogs from the
large Sala had gained access to that new area and attacked Dina. Dina
was the sweetest dog one could imagine, and I deeply blame myself for
not having protected her better. I also have to cope with another loss.
Neung, who had lived without any problems at Wat Amparahm for years,
could not be found anymore.

Tessa, one of the black puppies,
was bitten in the hind leg, resulting in a bone fracture. After a
three-day stay in the clinic, I placed her in the treatment room, which
she shares with Kylie and Maggie Song. There is hope that surgical
intervention can be avoided.

At the end of the month, I found
Nousha lying dead under one of the benches in the house. She died from
internal bleeding, and the cause remains unknown to me. Just twelve
hours earlier, Nousha was completely fine.

During my routine
visit to the temple, I discovered that Tara had sustained an ugly wound
on her left hind leg. After tending to the wound at Dr. Oi's, I am now
temporarily housing Tara in the double gate area of the shelter.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-38365270117141102102023-05-31T01:13:00.004+07:002023-06-02T01:15:06.677+07:00
Activity Report - May 2023

The merger of the black puppies with the older puppies

make a few more relocations. Zola and Toya couldn't quite find their
way in the newly created area and are now living in the double-gate

with the relocation. The newly created area is now occupied only by Nuri
and Mona.

Dina, Cookie, and Maggie Song, the three dogs that I
recently discovered who were not spayed, have now been sterilized. I
also had six dogs from the temple beach and two others from Wat Yang Yai
sterilized. Talib and Jomo, the two older shelter puppies, have been
sterilized as well.

Talib suffered an ugly chest
wound while trying to pass through a metal sheet. The wound is healing
well, but Talib needs to visit the clinic every three days to change the

in the treatment room, and that seems to be doing her good. However,
Roshi's coat condition is still unsatisfactory, despite her receiving
special food.

Billy has developed swelling in the throat area. He

Jake, one of the

It started with me having to take Aki to the clinic because he was not feeling well. He died under my hands on the examination table. The cause of his rapid health deterioration was internal bleeding. The day after, I was with Norbu at Dr. Oi's. His test results showed alarmingly low levels of red blood cells. Norbu was put on an IV. Serge informed me that two of the Mabprachan puppies had been run over. I decided to take the remaining five puppies with me.

At the beginning of the second week of March, I saw Jampa, one of Dahn's puppies, dead under a pallet. The day after, I found Hakim and Yana dead as well. I took Arkan and Kito, two more of Dahn's puppies, to Dr. Oi, barely alive.

Two days later, I was with Japa, Kavi, and Shaina at Dr. Oi's. I had taken these three puppies from Beppe. detected a deep wound on Taco's back which needed to be treated. So I

Dahn, the mother dog, trusts me already and all pups seem to be in good health.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-38456390165267955842022-11-30T20:56:00.004+07:002022-12-04T20:58:15.399+07:00
Activity Report - November 2022

Since I am not coordinating the SDF sterilization project any longer, I am not going to publish the number of sterilized dogs here anymore. Lingling was suffering from a cut under her left eye, and Dodger suffered from a nasty cut at his nose. Both cuts had to be stitched up by Dr. Oi who did a very good job. Lingling's cut was healed after a week, but Dodger had to be separated from his buddies for almost two weeks, which hurt him more than the wound did.

At the end of the month, I had to take in three eight-week-old pups. Two of them had been Parvo infected and were being treated for a couple of days. The woman who rescued the pups from a certain death could not accommodate the pups, and all other places refused to take them in. I hope they will all survive and can find permanent homes.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-5907846580648460722022-10-31T09:18:00.004+07:002022-11-02T09:39:33.416+07:00

Activity Report - October 2022

260 more dogs have been sterilized and were taken back to their living places. It is a relief since coping with all the challenges on my own was tough. Lizzy, although only five months old, is now very much established among the house area dogs. Joy, a new member of the Pong parking lot bunch, and Nadia, the remaining un-sterilized temple pub, have both been sterilized. Kenzo fully recovered from his bite wounds. volunteer, Pat, had to go back to Australia for the whole month. Working
on my own, looking properly after more than 70 shelter dogs, is tough.
And, it is not only the shelter work alone; I have to take care of more
than 20 dogs at Wat Amparahm as well. I am also often the focal point
for residents who need my help dealing with sick or injured dogs.

I
had to take in a four month old pup that was dumped very close to my
shelter. Lizzy settled in very well, and I could release her after two
weeks into the house area. Luna, one of my temple dogs, lost weight. I
took her in and got her blood tested. Luna is doing quite well. She was
obviously dehydrated since she lived on the beach with no sufficient
access to fresh water. Saddhu, another temple dog, developed TVT. By the
end of the month, he already received four chemotherapy treatments. Two
more have to follow.

Navo's and Roshi's skin

and they are now only receiving fish oil. That fish oil treatment has
to be continued for at least a month.

Brownie, a
Labrador living in front of a 7-Eleven store, was hit by a car and
dislocated his hip joint. Two foreign residents came forward to cover
the costs for a necessary surgery. The surgery is going to take place
beginning next month.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-33903225523510546642022-08-31T09:02:00.000+07:002022-09-05T09:03:12.333+07:00
Activity Report - August 2022

263 more dogs have been sterilized and were taken back to their living places. Sonya stayed in my apartment since she had to be bottle fed every three to four hours. She developed normally and went into Josie's shelter after two weeks. There, I saw Binglee, Snowey and Bee again. They were happy to see me and are doing very well.

A resident asked me to take a dog to Dr. Oi. The dog has a massive lump beneath his breast. An initial diagnosis cannot rule out a tumor. He will undergo surgery as soon as possible.

Since I changed the dry food brand, all but two dogs recovered from long lasting skin problems. The total number of sterilized dogs now stands at 9,892.

I took Elsa to the clinic since she was very quiet for a couple of days. A blood test revealed moderately severe anemia and an infection. Elsa stayed in the clinic and received fluid intravenously for two days. Within the following two weeks, she received three additional EPO injections. It seemed Elsa was on the way to recovering, but I found her unexpectedly one morning lying dead in her area. She was nine years old.

I had to take Chip to the clinic since he had difficulties passing water. An X-ray examination revealed that a stone is partially blocking the urethra. Dr. Oi widened the urethra and prescribed urinary food for two weeks, which can dissolve the stone. Chip was receiving fluid as well. He is on the way to recovery.

Toya, who I placed into the TVT station to recover from her skin problems, did not stand up anymore. An X-ray scan revealed a slightly compressed sacral disk. Only one session of aqua therapy did the trick and Toya could walk again.

Since Pinky and Khiaow developed a hostility against each other, I relocated Pinky to the Pat area. In order for her not to be alone there, Tanya, Taya and Tiny went with her. Khiaow could therefore be back at the house area.

Nuri and Snowey were allowed to stay in my apartment for almost the entire month. Since new guests arrived at the resort where I lived on my own because of Covid, I had to take Nuri back to the shelter; and, Snowey now lives at Josie's temple shelter after his treatments were complete. Nuri now stays at the house area and fits in there quite well.

All dogs, except Roshi and Navo, have miraculously recovered from their long-lasting skin problems, since I changed the food brand. However, Roshi's and Navo's skin diseases are obviously not caused by a wrong food intake. For both of them, I am going to start a treatment trial using a combination of cephalexin, itraconazole and cyclosporin.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-16620413196074148542022-06-30T09:21:00.001+07:002022-07-04T09:22:35.477+07:00
Activity Report - June 2022

201 more dogs have been sterilized and were taken back to their living places. The total number of sterilized dogs now stands at 9,590. Soi Dog Foundation is now allowing us to cover the whole Banglamung district.

Namtarn, the bitch I took in with advanced renal failure, survived for only 18 days despite a daily fluid treatment. Snowey is still under treatment, but is recovering quite well. Since he had been discharged from the clinic, he stays in my apartment. I also took in Nuri, a bitch with recurring skin problems. She is recovering well after a couple of bath treatments.

As the metal sheets are rusting in the soil and are beginning to crumble, I had to make the tough decision to reinforce the sheets with mesh wire on a length of 60 meters. Material and labor costs amounted to 30,000 Baht which was well beyond my regular budget, and so I had to borrow money again.

Josie, a dedicated rescuer who is quite successful in finding new homes for abandoned dogs, has taken Binglee and Bee into her custody. She is going to keep them until they can be adopted. As soon as Snowey fully recovers, he will follow Binglee and Bee. All three of them used to be house dogs. They are pretty small and not really accustomed to a rough shelter life.

Nikki, the bitch that was dumped with her four pups at Wat Amparahm beach, has been sterilized and was united with her pups. One of them has been taken away, hopefully for a good life. The remaining three seem to enjoy their life among the fishermen who are looking after them.

Since I have to deal with recurring hair and skin problems, I decided to change the dry food brand, hoping toxic soil is not the cause of the skin inflammations, but instead is caused by the food. At the end of the month, I have noticed some positive effects, but only time will tell whether or not they will last.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-23655664344983987462022-05-31T22:11:00.003+07:002022-06-06T22:14:08.453+07:00

finally disappeared after two weeks. Since both of them are sterilized
and vaccinated, they will hopefully find a place which is suitable for
them.

Since I had three distemper cases in the shelter, I
vaccinated the shelter dogs and also the temple dogs. None of the other
dogs have fallen ill since then. The vaccines were thankfully funded by
K9Aid.

Thanks to another food donation, I can
now provide Prajuab with 80 kg of dry food and 120 kg of rice per month.
Prajuab has 60 dogs to care for in a wasteland. The security guard in
Central Pattaya continues to receive 40 kg of dry food every month. He
takes care of about a dozen dogs.

The dogs that have been
suffering from inflammatory spots on their bellies have recovered. The
cause of the inflammations is still unknown.

Snowey,
who lived together with Oscar, Merlin, Binglee and Bee for almost a
year without any incident, got severely bitten and had to stay in Dr. Oi
clinic for several days.

A resident made me aware of a
sick dog which could be caught and brought to Huaiyai Clinic. A test
revealed renal failure. I decided to take her - Namtarn - in to treat her
and make the rest of her life as comfortable as possible.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-32086644826609128032022-04-30T21:02:00.004+07:002022-05-05T21:17:22.745+07:00
Activity Report – April 2022

161 more dogs have been sterilized and were taken back to their living places. Tarik, however, succumbed peacefully following an 8 weeks battle with severe kidney failure.

As usual, several dogs were suffering from treatable health conditions: Victor suffered from swollen lymph nodes on his hind legs; Cookie from an open wound on her left elbow; Khiaow from swollen tissues at her lower belly; Jack from an ear infection; Tiny and Edith from a blood parasites infection; and several dogs from inflammatory spots on their bellies. All dogs have been treated by Dr. Oi and some of them are still on medication.

Kimi and Isco, who have been living at the shelter for more than a year but never settled in properly, have been relocated to Wat Amparahm where they could join their sibling, Jingo, who has already been staying there for six months. Both dogs can now enjoy their freedom at the temple area and on the beach. They will hopefully settle in there.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5758737899823355604.post-59895734215665110222022-03-31T23:29:00.010+07:002022-04-06T23:33:35.301+07:00
Activity Report – March 2022

177 more dogs have been sterilized and were taken back to their living places.
